Well, I am back in Arizona from our Death Valley ride. What a ride. I left Phoenix on Friday am, around 7 oclock. the Buell m2 was packed and ready to go. A little chilly and windy, and it did not warm up much till Las Vegas. Looks like I always averaged over 50 mpg running between 70 and 80 mph. The other guys left Northern Cal about the same time. I took phoenix to wickenburg, to kingman, to las vegas to indian springs, and then into Beatty Nevada, the doorway to Death Valley. We all stayed at the motel 6th, had a great meal on Friday night at the casino, talked, spent a few dollars, and went to bed. Early up on Saturday morning for a 16 oz slice of ham, eggs, biscuits and gravy and plenty of coffee. Beatty is very small, and if you think wendover is small, beatty is even smaller...whew. Right outside of Beatty, there must be a stretch of road that looks like it goes forever in a straight line, leading into Death Valley. The Valley is spectacular, in size and appearance and no photos or words can explain. The flowers were starting to bloom, and ready looked cool. Pure Uly territory for sure. We did over 160 miles in the valley visiting the well known sites like Scottys castle, etc. Leaving Scottys castle gives you a few twisties, except that there is gravel in every corner, but the 5-10 mile long straights let you blow out the cob webs. Back to town for some mexican food, really good, relax and head out to a great ghost town, for a late evening explore of the desert. Back to the hotel for another meal, some gambling and talk. Good times. Up at 6 am on Sunday, and we were all on the road by 7 am. A little warmer this time back to PHoenix. Boy, the Buell sure is cool on the road. 80 mph at 3,000 rpm, just a the sweet spot for roll ons.....love the sound, love the torque. all in all, over 1200 miles, give or take a few. No problems, and the bike now has almost 42,000 miles without a problem. REX |
