Honestly though, a BMW in the dirt? Do people that buy BMW's even know where to find dirt? ~SM |

Ah, come on now, who invented the "adventure bike"? Could it be the same guys who have won more Paris-Dakar events than anyone else? Can you spell B M W? |

I've got a good friend who swears by his HP2. Could be cool. . . Buell and BMW jumping in at the same time. Bring'em on! |

So, who's copying who? Or, did these two corporate beaurocracies somehow miraculously come to the same conclusions at the exact time? And, if so, what monumental market forces could have resulted in those parallel decisions? I mean, what happened in competition off road to precipitate these two manufactures jumping in just now? What opening are they both greedily eyeing? Who are they expecting to capitalize on? WHATS GOING ON HERE?! (Message edited by naustin on March 16, 2007) |

Hey, I LOVE the bikes, I've just never seen one that wasn't spotless and putting around town! Saw the HP2 at bike show just recently and thought it was GORGEOUS, but certainly not worth the price of 2 Ulys. ~SM |

Naustin, I'm not positive, but in my speculatin', has not supercross and all the other crosses and society in general started to get away from the 2 strokes? Which would enable a whole buttload of fourstroke manufacturers to now join the hunt without starting all over to develop new motors? |

Kdan, good call. My boss just bought a 4 stroke 450 (I think 450?) for that very reason. They're crackin' down on the 2 strokes and phasing them out. Environmental reasons I believe, started in Cali. ~SM |

BMW has been making "dirtbikes" for a long time. Hell, they've had a 650(?) single forever now. I rode one, and it's not too bad to be honest. Didn't have the nuts of a big displacement twin, but that's what happens. |

Well, the 4 strokes have become the dominant machine through years of development. The irony is that they've now become more maintenance intensive than their once considered finicky 2-stroke counterparts. Seems everyone's jumping into the competitive 450's. It's become the 600 Supersport equivalent in off road racing. |
