looking for owner reviews on the Aeroh Tyger helmet. quick link for those who've never heard of them http://www.dirtbikexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?c_id=1&sc_id=1&p_id=30 I like the look, and its one of the few helmets available in the uber-small size I need, but I'll have to order out of the UK, and cant see one 'hands on'. BC doesnt specifically require a DOT certification, so the Euro tag is fine. so, for anyone with one: how good are the fit & finish? padding & lining materials? hinge hardware for the faceplate? the Tyger has a quick release strap - how well does the mechanism work? and one of my biggest questions: noise level at 60-90 mph? thanks in advance for any feedback (Message edited by ulendo on March 13, 2007) | ||

I don't know about that particular helmet- but I did have a "street-dirt" helmet similar to it. Visor on- supposedly good for the street- Visor off- supposedly ready for dirt- I say supposedly because I only wore it a few times. That fricken' bill thing catches wind like a sail! I glance at mirrors but look over my shoulder before changing lanes. More than one time it almost ripped my head off at speed. Next time you are in your car- revisit your youth and stick your hand out and ride the air currents at various speeds and imagine that on the front of your head... This is just my experience... I do 50/50 dirt and street, and local roads legal limit is only <90kph ( 55 mph) ergo, its pretty normal in for me to ride w/ armored glasses, and the visor up, either to keep from fogging, or for airflow depending on time of year. I also shoulder check like crazy - lots of inattentive, geriatric drivers here - and I've never had an issue with my neck. the 'bill' is actually part of the appeal: keep the direct sun out of my eyes, and to a certain extent, I can duck my head when offroad, and keep mud out of my face ! I've had an Aeroh Warrior since they hit the market. It's a quality helmet if you're talking about materials and lining, which I'd assume continues throughout the brand. The quick release fastening system works fine but clumsy to operate with race gloves. I found after time that the strap webbing tends to settle in the position the fasteners always finds, so after a year or so of use there's always that little bit of slack that happens after you've ridden for a few miles, and you find yourself attempting to tighten it whilst on the move by pulling on the loose end of the strap. 'D' ring fastening beats this problem and works better, and is safer. The Warrior was advertised as the quietest helmet on the market. Whether that reflects on Aeroh's other models I don't know, but the Warrior is stunningly quiet from wind noise and buffeting etc whilst not drowning out all other sounds you might want to hear. thanks rocketman - despite being highly rated in the reviews I've found online, absolutely no where here carries them, and none of my relatives in the UK know anything about bikes or gear. anyone else have a Tyger, or any other airoh? | ||

Every now and again I will use my carbon fiber motocross helmet on my Buell and havent had too much neck snap, maybe the semitucked position of the R model helps. I took a test ride with that Aria model and really liked it but the price was too much. | ||

AFAIK, Arai simply dont come down to small enough sizes. On one of the boards I frequent, someone suggested that they actually use different shells in different markets to reflect the physical differences inherent, but then I'd be back into ordering from overseas....and at 10X the price!!! | ||

Arai do make an extra small size in many of their models. It is true that Arai do make different shape and size shells for different markets too. Anyway, seeing as you had me spelling Airoh wrong, I found this whilst searching Google in an effort to spell Airoh correctly. Airoh US info Rocket | ||

thanks rocket - as it happens, I'd found that page previously. kind of sums up the issue - at the bottom of the page, there's a link 'where to buy'that links to the Airoh italy website! Almost every article I've read has good things to say about airoh helmets, but like most folks, I'd prefer to find someone who owns one to get long term user feedback from. | ||

Well let me summarize my Warrior then. Quietest helmet I own, and ever have, and I have Bell, Arai, Simpson any plenty of others. Very light. Very comfortable. Visor ratchet system works perfect. Visor closed is incredibly quiet and air tight. No visor misting issues. Easy to clean. Ratchet system works well but will settle on the strap over time. It's plastic and I'm not convinced plastic is the way to go for safety first. Yes I crash tested mine, and it held up well for what was a minor 'get off'. Spare parts (I had to purchase some visor mount screws and washers) were readily available and cheap (in the UK) Hope this helps. Rocket |
