I don't know of anyone that makes a handheld crossbow that isn't a POS, sorry. Now, if you wanted a full size one, then I can help. |

Is Ben Pearson still alive? I remember reading his hunting tales in Outdoor life when I was younger. I always wished I could have his job. Very old copies of Outdoor Life that is. (Message edited by thansesxb9rs on February 17, 2007) |

I'm probably talking heresy here, but in for a penny.... You going to be doing crossbows Dave? I had one nearly 30 yrs ago, I expect they've come on a bit since then too. |

Yeah... I've seen some really nice compound mini crossbows. Stuff up around 60lbs and only 8" wide... |

Grumpy, Yes, i can get Crossbows. i have no problem with them, although some bowhunters do. I think they should legalize their use. Some people can't pull a bow? In Iowa, if you have a doctors excuse, you can use a crossbow for deer hunting. M1, send me a link to the 60 lb 8" crossbows. I wasn't aware they could get that much draw weight out of that small of a weapon. The problem would still be the short draw length, for lack of a better term. It is the same for a bow. A person with a 30" draw length will get more speed out of a 60 lb bow than a person with a 28" draw length shooting the same 60 lbs. I can't imagine an 8" crossbow would have much speed even at 60 lbs? I could be wrong of course. Bcord, what grain tips do you use. By sight fletch, do mean cok vane? (I had to mis spell it to get it past the censors, no comments from the peanut gallery, that is really what they are called) |

Yes, Dave, the Koch vane. I just went through all my tips with a magnifying glass and didn't any markings for grain. Tomorrow I will take ride down to the Sportsman's Warehouse and see what those guys think they are. I hate to there, they have great prices on guns.. I have been looking at Ruger 410 gauge revolver they have. Great home defense weapon. The last time I went to look at something I walked out of there with North American Arms .22 Mag revolver. Bcord They should have a scale they can weigh them on. At 55 lbs I would suggest shooting 100 grain heads. If yours are heavier, new ones are only a few bucks for target/field points. We made some major progress yesterday! Chris, helping me get the materials we need, OK, so this is about half of the wood we need, I have the coolest Mother in Law in the world! Gives up her weekend to help out and she isn't getting paid! Me, painting, who would have thought? Kandie got in on the action too My brother Ralph (Gearhead) Sorry for the blurry picture Ralph, you just move too fast. Amazing since you just turned 50! Chris, building the step platforms Taos wasn't much help The 35 yard targets Grrrrrrrr 2 of the 7 standing buck targets I will have on the range Pork chops, anyone? Ahhhhhh, nothing like putting your feet up on your own desk Today we build the workbench, the rest of the target stands, the bow case rack, hang the other bow display rack, the other range bow hanger and of course more painting. |

Dave, The shop is lookin goooooood. I just got back from the Sportsman's Warehouse, the person in the Archery department weighed my tip (that sounds so wrong). It tipped the scale at 125 grains. I am sure that will help you with information supplied. I am thinking TMI! |

well, we were back at it bright and early this morning with another trip to Menard's for more lumber Here's some pictures of today's results. More painting More building, here Gearhead and Chris build my bow case rack for customers to put their cases while they shoot. We need to build one more but Chris misfigured the amount of lumber we would need so i get to go back to Menard's a 3rd time One of the bow hanging racks We actually got them both up now The finished bow case rack Our DELUXE dining setup. Notice the fine china. Nothing but the best for my helpers. Here, Gearhead and Chris figure out the workbench setup The beginning of a workbench The end result Kandie and Bobbie got all but one wall painted now. I spent the day keeping Gearhead and Chris on track and building bow holding rods, target stands, hanging up the 2nd bow rack and hogging out holes in the bow display rack in true hillbilly fashion with a drill bit. Another 12-13 hour day. I could not have done it without all the help! Thanks |

well Eyebrow Jason and I shot our first round of 3D yesterday. We have the targets in position and the shooting stations marked out. I have product on the wall and will have more by tomorrow. My sign for the building is done and I am picking it up today Updated pics, a logo a friend made for me My new bow press Stuff on the wall! one week from now I will be about to open the doors for business! The local paper came out yesterday with Kandie and I on the front page! Of course the LaPorte City paper probably only has about 2000 subscribers. But, I sent a press release to the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier. I figured they would just toss it but they emailed and called me back that they want to do an article on my new business. The Courier probably goes out to about 100,000 people! Free advertisement, gotta love that! |

Dave....you should also send out press releases to any local television. I can almost guarantee you'll get some morning new program coverage. They'll probably do a live remote highlight the new business. Just a thought. |
