Washed and waxed the S2 yesterday, and locked it in the garage. Didn't fully winterize it 'cause it'll get ridden weather and attitude permitting. Gotta change the oil, wow it cranks slow with 20-50 in it. Friend of mine has the Blast, he's taking his license exam next week, so that won't be winterized (Nallinized? - where's that formula on discretionary income from Court when you need it?) for a few more weeks. Regarding wind chill - hit the first big cold spell riding across SD last month, there's no difference between 65 and 95 mph that I could notice. Hug the tank, and let the fairing do the work. Might as well get there fast 'cause it's not getting any warmer. |

Snowed last night. Melted now, roads look dry. 39 degrees, I think I'm going for a ride! Should have temps between 30-50 degrees for the next 3 days. Ride it while you can! |

I think I rode my bike for the official final time today for the 2002 season. The first two "final" times were actually "sort of like final" and "final, in a temporary way". This time I think it's really final. It's supposed to be in the 20's for highs next week with lows near single digits here in Minneapolis. Oh, and I didn't wear chaps today. I didn't go far and I figured I was going to be cold no matter what I did. |

John, I too have pretty much resigned myself to the fact the season is over. I may try one more time before Thanksgivng but I'm not holding my breath. It would be fun for bragging rights to ride to work at least on e more day after Thanksgiving. I've pulled it off the last two years but it's not looking good... Brad |

Man I really feel for you guys. It would drive me crazy not to be able to ride for several months. I get cranky after a week. |

Cil and I put on over 800 miles cumulative yesterday. She on her Blast and me on my X1. Lesson learned: Crossroads bars and rearsets on an X1 really suck for long distance riding!! But we still had a great time. To all the folks who are snowed in..... I'm sorry. Thats one of the reasons I joined the Army. To get the hell out of WI!!! |

After 2 weeks of no riding, I HAD to get out. So, 60 miles later, on the Blast Saturday, weather overcast and in the 40's, my body was starting to shiver; with JRocket thick gear and Thinsulite gloves. Took me a hour to get warm again. Hypothermia can sneak up on a rider, even in the NW. |

Took the bike out for a ride yesterday. It must have been over 40 degrees! Only problem is that all the gas stations have switched from Turbo Blue to Kerosene, so I had to buy some race gas from my local speed shop at $8/gallon. |

Az_M2, Not being able to ride for months at a time is not fun but nothing beats the feeling when spring comes. On that first warm day in March or April and you get your bike out for the first time. It makes you feel like a little kid again. It's awesome! I've lived in Minnesota all my life and what's weird is I am not really into any winter sports like skiing, or snowmobiling. But I don't mind winter very much except when it's way below zero. That kind of weather I hate. Brad, Who knows, you might be able to ride yet this year. It's supposed to turn cold for a few days but then warm up a little towards the end of the week. I didn't pull my battery out. I figured I'll wait a week or so and see what happens. But with the days getting shorter and shorter it's not likely we'll get much warmth again until spring. |

Well it snowed finally and I went out in the garage turned on the heat. Changed the oil and trans fluid.Gave it alittle detailing through the cover on and I guess I'll see it in the spring. BadS1. |

Chris K, Keep talking like that and you are going to end up with a bunch of Buelligans on your doorstep, oh, I would say right around the middle of March !!! Gotta love it, though. I left Sedona, Arizona six years ago and I still have some days where I ask WHY ?????? Charlotte |

This is my first winter on a Buell and I can see that I'm going to have the same trouble I had with similar "bare alloy" type engines on previous bikes(BMW twins, Ducati monster). I work on an offshore oil platform for two weeks at a time, and no matter what I do my bike looks like it was "dipped in dogshit" by the time I get home. The salt was down last time, and I came back to white fur on every alloy surface and all the black bolts too. The best stuff I've tried was a spray-on wax from BMW, but it was harder to get off the castings than the white fur. Now I just use WD-40 and a toothbrush to limit the damage, and alloy cleaner and a toothbrush when I get home. The winters here in Scotland are nothing like as bad as U.S. or Canada so even though it's hard on the bike (salt) I just keep riding. We'll be a long time looking at the lid, as they say. |

I guess I should have posted THIS here. And BTW, I found this info on the web. I am including the credits as it is someone elses work. If you would like a copy of the file (for printing & leaving at your local [H-D] stealer just email me.
Harley Buell Riders' Windchill Tables This table was compiled at the request of Larry & Maureen D. of Schenectady, NY. Larry needed a windchill table that extended to highway speeds at what are ususally considered mild temperatures. Note that no claim is made for the real-world applicability of these tables. The classic windchill was derived by measuring the change in temperature of water in a plastic container, as that container was exposed to varying temperatures and winds speeds. Most observational work was done at very low temperatures. In applying this information to the human body, there are neglected issues of cooling due to perspiration, and very little attention was given to air temperatures above body temperature. So please ... Ø use these tables only as very rough indicators of windchill Ø don't take the info too seriously Ø remember to enjoy the ride Table of Windchill Values for Highway Speeds ......................................................................................Air Temperature (degrees F)

OZ, the table doesnt go lower than 30 degrees. Us riders in wisconsin consider 30 degrees positively balmy in the spring. Coldest I have ridden in was 7 degrees on new yrs day a few yrs back. I refused to turn the bike off once I got it started also. Took almost 45 minutes & actually fried out my starter clutch. Never again. |

Dyna - Hey, I didn't say it was complete, just that I had found it... Really, it DOES seem to correspond quite well to my PERSONAL observations / perceptions. I’m most comfortable riding when the temp is between 75 and 85 (closer to 85). In Buffalo (and Wisconsin I’ll bet) that means afternoons in July and August. For me 40 is about the lower limit, I’ve been out more than once in the 32-35 range and have had to stop ever 10-15 miles because my hands get so cold they won’t work. Repeated minor frostbite when I was young and dumb and … It’s not safe to ride when one can’t see (rain, snow, fog, beer) can’t work the controls (cold, beer) [please note COMMA] or is distracted (lack of sleep, coffee, beer, sex or during my preferred riding temps in Buffalo). Geez, I must be getting RESPONSIBLE or something, maybe distracted. We both know what happens to the table below 30… to paraphrase what I recall “wind chill temperatures below 0 can freeze exposed flesh in seconds…” ow-ow-ow-ow. BTW, in the spring we get balmy in Buffalo, too – although I think Rocket spells it differently. I hope it gets here soon for all of us – but I still plan on a quick spin ~ once a month for the next few, withdrawal `ya know. Oz |

Got to ride the Bolt to work today. I always ride to work at least one day a month. (don't know why, I just do!) I was running out of December days so today was it! The ride in was real nice with 39 degrees and sun. The ride home in the dark and 26 degrees was a little intense but well worth it. Never say "winterize"! |

It's been two weeks since I rode to work. Next week, the temperature will be in the upper 30s, so I'll be riding the 50+ miles to (and from) work! Here's my trick: Warm layers, wrapped in a rain suit. The rain suit kills the wind, and the new windshield certainly doesn't hurt any! My toes freeze if it gets close to 30, so I get some "Hot Hands" packs, shake them up, and put them in the toes of my boots. I have a foam rubber mask that fits under my helmet, but isn't so easy to get in straight. Two or three attempts is usually all it takes. I ask myself, "Why am I the only motorcycle rider on the road today?" quite a bit. |

It's funny here in Florida how many people won't ride in inclement weather. A little rain and everyone keeps their bikes at home. Seems like the people riding on cooler or rainy days are the people that have to. |

its roughly 30 or so in pittsburgh, pa. it was 40 the other day! i almost got to ride but then it rained and then turned to slushy sleety freezing rain crap... although, theres one tough ass local harley guy who was out in the freezing rain the other day (as he always is)...hes got balls man, big balls. well, what i do for my fix is I go out into the garage and start the bike and sit on the stand and act like im doing some seriour left cornering while revving up and down! If you dont vent the garage, you get so ripped on fumes, its almost as euphoric as a real ride!!!(disclaimer: if your actually dumn enough to try this, stay off the roads and get some help.) dreaming of warm weather Jason |

It was a balmy 43 degrees this morning, but as I rode north, the temperature dropped to a more comfortable range. My Yahoo tells me that the temperatures will be between 40 and 20 Thursday and Friday. No snow, so it should be a nice ride. |

Rode 40 miles on the Blast Sunday. 42 degrees standing still..., slight rain. Joe Rocket ballistic gear helped prevent too much wind chill. Thumper seems to prefer colder and wetter weather. Stopped at the dealer and warmed up while sitting on a Firebolt and a Lightning. Prefer the latter's seating position. Maybe Santa will be good to me.... |

Rode into work again today. 42 degrees going in, alot colder at 11:30pm! This was our last day before Christmas shutdown so alot of Harleys found their way in today too. Felt great when I started the Bolt up and they all looked! yeah, yeah, I know, stroke that ego! I think with the more I ride it, the louder the race muffler is getting. Still sounds good to me though. Merry Christmas all |
