Quote:Ciccotto’s fourth place was then taken away by race officials when his Buell didn’t have enough gas left in its frame/tank to make the mandatory post-race dyno run. The Hal’s Performance Advantage crew lobbied for Formula USA officials to allow them to add fuel while trying to start their Firebolt on the dyno but were unsuccessful in both efforts.

Very sad, he would have finished second if he hadn't run out of gas. Bet we'll see increased fuel capacity for 2004. Rob |

What bad luck for Ciccotto! He must have been very disappointed. I wonder if this resulted from small fuel tank capacity, or if there was some other reason (e.g. screw-up or leak) that caused an empty tank. Could be a recurring issue in the hardest-driving contests this racing season. |

I don't know so I'll ask, does this series have a fuel capacity rule? If so I'd be willing to wager that a few other's are tweaking their capacity just a wee bit. If not then they'd better start taking a hammer and welder to their XB frame to add sufficient capacity. I'm thinking there's room to grow it some if they get creative. |

THIS IS FOR FLY , NO WE DID NOT SCREW UP IN FACT WE TOPPED OFF AFTER THE WARM UP LAP . THE WEATHER PLAYED IN TO MANY DECISIONS THAT HAD TO BE MADE .THE LACK OF TRACK TIME DUE TO THE EVER CHANGING WEATHER HAVING TO CHOOSE (FULL RAIN OR DRY AND ALL THE POSSIBLE COMBINATIONS) AIR TEMP. BARO. HUMIDITY. CHANGING BY THE HOUR. LACK OF DATA MADE IT A ROLL OF THE DICE TO GAGE FUEL MILAGE.AFTER DOING THE MATH THE HAL'S XB9R FIREBOLT WAS 0.37 GAL. SHORT OF A SECOND PLACE FINISH AGANST MATT WAIT'S FACTORY R6.THE HAL'S TEAM WILL MAKE AJUSTMENTS AND MOVE FORWARD. STAY TUNED @ HALSPA.COM TERRY |

.37... that sucks...Terry, I know you guys are busy down there, but just curious, did you finish the fairing on Rick's XB9R yet? I have seen a lot of people asking about a street fairing for that bike. Ken Brew City Brag member |

So fuel capacity was not to blame. That's great news and shows the Firebolt to be competetive. Looks like this could be an exciting season for Buell fans! Thanks Hal's! Rob |

Terry: Congratulations on a fine finish! Regardless of the oops at the end, from what I've read (since SpeedTV don't carry FUSA, dangit) it was an excellent effort. Waiting eagerly for Ciccoto to be waving to the stands from the top spot. See you at Summit Point! (since no Pocono this year??) |

"So fuel capacity was not to blame." "AFTER DOING THE MATH THE HAL'S XB9R FIREBOLT WAS 0.37 GAL. SHORT " This would indicate capacity was the problem. Having seen some of their work I believe they'll find a clever solution. I may be just me, but I've felt the XB's should have had a 5 gallon fuel capacity. |

Are any Buell teams going to compete in AMA Superstock this year? Where was Eric Wood's Firebolt at the Formula USA races? http://home.ama-cycle.org/prorace/natnum-rr.asp?cls=hs&mn=n You'll see some familiar Buell racers names on this list - does it mean anything? I don't know. Seems like alot of us are in the dark concerning Buells racing status this year- Why don't they post this stuff on the Buell website? Alot of race and Buell fans would like to follow this stuff. Another question I've had lately - How come Ducati is fielding factory WSBK and MotoGP teams as well as assisting various other racing efforts this year and are suffering horrible financial losses? Harley on the other hand has record profits every quarter and decided it wasn't financially conceivable to continue road racing - and won't commit to a full factory supported Buell team? |

Jscott, Check out the March/April 2003 issue of Fuell. On page 5 it shows the Buell Road Racing Support Program for 2003. $61,000. in contingency paid back to 15th place for racers aboard Buell motorcycles in the eight-round national Formula USA Thunderbike series. It also lists the entire schedule. |

Looks like Estok is on a Buell running in the Superstock practice. They have Wood listed on his Suzuki. Check it out @ the wire Live - http://www.ussuperbike.com/round.php?UID=7zpZmbfYZFypGL2tZHjneIrQHZ24OW&sc=1137&year=2003&number=1 |

Elvis & Ramon, It looks like you might see a glimpse of David Estok's Firebolt during the Superstock race. Don't know how much of him you'll see since he was quite a bit off race pace during todays practice. Is this a Tilley's bike? Does anyone know? Ciccotto's looking good on that Suzuki though. http://venus.13x.com/roadracingworld/index.html |

Looks like Dave is more than four seconds off Mike Cicotto's best times in FUSA on the Firebolt. The Firebolts aren't horsepower restricted in AMA, so I would expect the times to be quicker than FUSA. Give the guys a little time, we'll see what happens. |

Thanks Jscott! I'll set my VCR and see if I can catch a quick glimpse of a snowball in Hell. And Ramon, I was reading it the same as you. It looks like speedvision will be showing it at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm Friday. (If I'm wrong, someone please correct me) |

Hals, If you topped off after the warm up lap, what else could you have done? And what's the plan for the future? Keep up the good, yet heartbraking work. |

I think there's still some confusion regarding the fuel amount. Did "topping off" mean completely filling the tank, or did it mean filling the tank to the amount calcualted? From Halsracing's post, and his mention of calculations, I inferred that they had topped off to the calculated amount, not a full tank. |

I'll tell ya what....my hat's off to Buell for making the first step towards renewing the racing enthusiasm among the hard core. This stuff, me thinks, is providing a glimpse at what the XB is capable of. Congratulations to the Hal's team for, in spite of the fuel glitch, making a strong showing for the Lil' Bolt! Court |

Elvis & Mikej, My understanding of Hal's post was the same as Elvis', that the amount of fuel needed to finish the race was not a full tank. This would be to save weight. Rob |

topping off the tank means that after the warmup lap we replaced the fuel that was burnt during the warmup lap.lack of practice data due to poor track conditions gave us no options but to fill it to the top. we came up a little short. but you can bet that wont happen again terry |
