Well after seeing the contest on the Badweb, I decided to enter the Buell Tourist Trophy Design Contest. I spent a few days (2 weeks) coming up with a design that I would like to see in a helmet. I submitted it and well I logged on today and saw it actually made it to the TOP 10. Out of these Top 10, the winner will have his design produced into a helmet and the Grand Prize winner (as picked by a Buell Rep, Erik himself will win a new Firebolt. Click on events/promotions 3. Click on promotions on the left bar Here is the entry paragraph I submitted with my design... Hello, Attached is my original design for the Buell motorcycle helmet. I enjoyed the numerous hours I spent working on this project and would love a chance to have Erik himself judge my artwork (if I get lucky enough to make the top 10). I currently own an 03 Buell Lightning XB9 and can’t express how much I love every aspect of this machine. These bikes are definitely “different in every sense” and no other bike I ever rode makes you feel like part of the machine like the Buell. My helmet design is based on what I personally would love to wear and see on the street or track. I’m not crazy about the custom airbrushed designs or the common tribal striped looks that take up much of the current market. I like the more subtle approach with an Erik Buell flair such as the colors of the frame and the amber highlights on the XB12, the “Own the corners” slogan, the Buell Pegasus wings on the side, and the technology display of the Buell patents on the back. Yes those obscure numbers are the 3 patents Buell owns for the fuel in the frame, ZTL brakes and under slung muffler. These are just a few of the aspects designed into the helmet to compliment the bike. I think this helmet design is something Erik would find suitable for the Buell brand. Shandon,sweet! I played that game a little bit between classes and what not, wish it would have came out beginning of winter! I voted for you on the promotion, can't say I was a big fan of the middle helmet with all the funky lines on it. I see you are from York, where abouts in York? Thanks to all of you for your votes and feedback on the design. Stou: Your work is amazing! You should have entered the contest. True the other bikes don't follow the theme of the bike but it's personal preference. Erik votes on all who made it into the top 10 so he will see mine and if he likes it, then I will win. 1313: If I make it down to NC you can go for a spin if I win. Stingaroo: Hanover isn't far at all. Hit me up when your back home and we can head down to Battlefield H/D-Buell and cruise the battlefields for shits and giggles. | ||

Shandon, My vote is in for you. Not only are you a badwebber, but you had, by far, the best design on there. If they're made, I'm getting one for sure. Brian and Shandon, We'll ride for sure. Miles? Stou: Your work is amazing! You should have entered the contest. Shandon, thanks! I didn't know about that contest. I really hope that you will win this contest. Your design look really professional and really had a nice Buell and PS look. I looked at the PS website today and the one who is at the top right now has 28% of the votes. It's a nice design but doesn't have any Buell related design on it. Shandon, was it a criteria of the contest? (something Buell related on the helmet?) I must admit that there's some nice design on the top ten. It will be hard to pick the winer! Good luck! | ||

As for criteria for the contest. It was based on originality and creative design, but with Erik being the final judge and jury I decided to make it a buell theme to match the bike. I could have easily went in a different direction that may be more appealing to the masses, but I wanted to stick with a theme Erik may recognize in the XB12. | ||
