Hollywood is now following the lead of that recent, semi-famous newspaper article about the daredevil sportbikers. Now, there's a movie being promoted where morons do stupid stunts at high speeds on public highways with no protective gear. Just the image we all need; so soccer moms have more reasons to hate us. And to top it off, it will likely lead to a rash of emergency room visits for 17-year olds (with the corresponding totaled R6). Six months after that, there will be a bill in congress limiting sportbikes to 25 hp. You wait and see.

If that is the case then "The Fast And The Furious" would have caused the same reaction for import tuners a couple of years ago.

It is the case in gun control, more Hollywood than reality in the legislation. That and the minor resurgence of the "biker" image in some regions might just lead to lower tolerance and more retaliation. Ever been to a cafe that has a sign on the door stating "No Leather Coats Allowed"? Funny how it only applied to bike jackets and not the deerskin tassled jacket worn by half the patrons inside. Years ago and miles away though. Nah, Hollywoodisms can never lead to legislations.

Never did see a sign about leather coats but I have seen signs for no hats on backward before!

I never said that Hollywoodisms could never lead to legislations, I was merely pointing out that the import tuner car craze explosion that the Furious movie created never ruffled any feathers, at least around here anyway. The amount of hopped up import cars probably tripled in this area since the movie and 90% of the cars are going down the road with fenders ripped off and smashed body panels because the driver automatically thinks he's a race car driver since his car is fast.

It just pisses me off that motorcycles get such bad publicity for being dangerous when these kids with fast cars are even more dangerous but nothing is said.

That movie will die off so damn quick it wont have a chance to make a negative image. 2 weeks after its theatrical debut it will be available on DVD.

Yep,
I see this coming soon to a 2am movie slot on your local network, or a Saturday afternoon to compete with RelicHunter or a Laurel&Hardy filmfest. The big test will be to see how it does at the local BlockBuster rental outlet. 5-Day rental, and no penalty if you get it back late. ;) Store it on the shelf right next to EasyRider.

I think that the casting for the film will have a lot to do with it's failure.

I thought Kid Rock wanted to be a cowboy, baby!

Mike,
Funny :)
one of my semi-regular haunts has had a faded sign out front for years that reads "leave your colors and your attitude outside." Plain leather is fine though.
OTOH did a "Meet the Parents" this weekend and made sure to wear long sleeves to cover the tatoos and left the leather jacket and boots at home. What they don't know won't hurt 'em and first impressions positive or negative are tough to overcome :)

The Fast and the Furious...IMO its impact was a lot of kids and young adults putting on front clips, wings, resonator exhaust tips, chopping springs, putting on wider high dollar low profile "performance" rims and tires, neon and lighting kits, of course the big sound systems, and making a whole lot noise with a lot of flash and not really doing squat for actually improving the cars performance...and in a lot of cases making it worse after not re-aligning the suspension after lowering 'em and using a chopped stock rate spring and shocks. What a joke. The worst I usually see these guys do is marking up parking blocks as they smash their "racing" fiberglass front clips into 'em...and burning clutches trying to do burn-outs. It's hilarious watching some of these people trying to act cool while their "streetracer" is bouncing like a pogo stick off the slightest bump while they're cruising down the road.

On the other hand, there's people doing it right...and aside from the lighting and audio/visual trash I think that's cool.

I have a feeling that the same will be happening with this new bike movie...except I'm sure more naive young guys will going out and buying YZFGSXRZXRR 1000's and hurtin' themselves in the persuit of posing.

"The fast and the furious" - around the time this movie came out, and after, there was a rash of street racing accidents around Portland Oregon. More likely the accidents were there all along but the movie publicity made it more news worthy so it was reported on with greater frequency. Now they will take you car and put you in jail if they catch you and you can be fined as a passenger.

I will see the movie, it does have motorcycles in it after all, but I doubt it will cause any good PR for those that ride.

I love American muscle cars but I've recently been exposed to the import stuff and it is fast. How about: light weight, 300 HP - turbo - innercooler - oil coolers, all wheel drive, pro lowered - no spring chopping here, custom paint, 4 wheel disks, etc. for under $15,000. A $1,500 engine can get, not at the same time mind you, over 30 MPG and put out 400HP - although it is a bit of a bomb at that boost level. What we see in the imported Japanese stuff does not compare to the performance they have in the same cars over there.

I've seen a lot of preppy boys on 'Busas. Nearly comical, some of these guys.

I, myself, love the looks I get at the H-D dealership when I walk in wearing Joe Rocket. When "the fast & the furious" trailer came on, my bud Wulfstan started to cry when the Charger got wrecked. So did I. I want to see this no doubt crappy movie, it's REALLY cold here & I could use a attitude boost. I am NOT looking forward to picking the stoppie "victums" up after the squids see this flick, but I also wince when the GSXKZYQ whatever rider goes by with a matching helmet, tanktop, shorts & flip flops goes by. I doubt the memory of this flick will last till spring, here tho. (only 6 more months of winter....)

Wayyyyy tooooo much power and not enough talent is what happens to a lot of sportbike riders.

A guy up this way got a busa and he has wiped it out hotdoggin it at least 3 times. The last time was in front of a bunch of people when he put it up on the back wheel, started to run out of room and when he put it down the front wheel was locked up (obviously the guy was on the front brakes) the front wheel left about 20 feet of skid mark before he and the bike went sideways into a chain link fence. After he regained himself he promptly left the scene.

Poor Busa but the guy was a real idiot to even attempt the wheelie in the place he was in.

Ehh...my personal favorite was still one I saw on Beech Daly coming home from work one day on my Firebolt.

Guy riding a Yamaha (R6 or R1, they all look the same to me) wearing a leather racing jacket, full face, khaki shorts and sandals.

I hope he road rashed his kneecaps off somewhere.

That flick is at best semiretarded. So it probably will have a dismal effect on the semiretards out there. Here in S. FL I often see girls in virtually nothing hanging on as their macho boyfriends blast down 95 (the guys usually have more on than the girls). Fun to watch (especially from behind :D ) but I can't help wondering if the girl's father has a clue what risks she's taking--makes safe sex somewhat less of an issue I suppose...

I heard a great one today. At work this guy was bragging about buying yet another car...and I notice he's wearing a still stiff leather jacket, has a new helmet, and rides a new Honda 954RR. I ask him about his ride, and he promptly tells me that he hasn't gone over 70mph and doesn't like to lean it! What a horrible waste.

Rick nailed it on the "Fast and the Furious" thing. ive seen a few civics on the bottle, but 9 times outta 10, its a poochy saturn with a big exhaust tip, nothing serious, but they all wanna race, little do they know my 68 firebird has a hot 400 in it, making at least 400 hp and i KILL them.

on this movie, biker boys, im not too worried. its gonna suck so bad no one will take special notice. but, i dont know if anyone else saw it, but after "Mission Impossible 2" came out, with the triumph scene, a LOT of kids started doing a lot of stupid stuff. it doesnt take much to suede young kids to do whats cool, so i bet rocket sales increase at least a little. we prolly will recieve some bad PR and an increase in squids riding around town, but the real posers wont be on our roads riding in the twisties, so i dont care too much. kids drive saturns and escorts and civics, so this shit is all feasable to do to the cars they already have, bikes are a little spendier and parents will clamp down on the suburban brats, so who knows how bad the fad will be, but ild bet bottom dollar that it wont be anywhere near as bad as the fast and the furious. just my guess, being a punk myself.

Personally I went to the drive-in (it's now closed, bummer) and saw the Fast and the Funniest. I had my 425 hp '78 Camaro. I had soooooo many cars wanting to race me afterwords. It was fun though. As far as BikerBoyz, hey more power to them. If it boosts sales of bikes, cool. If guys wanna race all over like crazy, there are many people on the organ donor list.

Personally I think if you live in the US and you want to have a 200mph bike and wanna race be my guest. But don't complain when you get caught or hurt. Movies like this stimulate the economy. Sales of cheap cosmetic parts go up, bike sales go up, people buy $1000 leathers that they never will have the ability to truly ride in, and we get tons of retard home video footage. And then in 6 months everyone will be complaining about something else like drag boats or gangs of gyrocopter pilots.

Overall though, the movie does look kinda cheesy, but hey if Bruce Willis can save the world by landing on a meteor and blowing it up with a hand triggered nuclear device, I think we can abuse a few tires on the big screen and smile about it...

A critic from the Chicago Tribune had these comments:
"Swill" is a perfect word for "Biker Boyz," cinematic idiocy served up by the troughful.
"Biker Boyz" makes "The Fast and the Furious" look like "Othello."

I don't know if the Fast & the Furry should be compared to Shakespeare but so far, I haven't seen a good, even mediocre review of BikerboyZ yet. I think I'll wait for it to show up on TBS or a Starz free preview in May or June ;)

Our local paper said "Biker Boyz" should have been called "The Black and the Furious", and they rated it a C-. It also mentioned another bike movie comming out soon. This one features Ice Cube and is called "Torque". Maybe it will be all about Buells.

The Ice Cube movie (Torque) looks a bit better; he rides a Triumph Daytona. Here is the teaser:

"Biker Cary Ford is framed by and old rival and biker gang leader for the murder of another gang member who happens to be the brother of Trey (Ice Cube), leader of the most feared biker gang in the country. Ford is now on the run trying to clear his name from the murder with Trey and his gang looking for his blood."
