I just looked through a book titled,"Memorable Japanese Motorcycles". It has 128 pages and they're all blank. |

Crusty - I'm assuming that both these posts are at least a bit tongue-in-cheek. But with reference to your title; guess that depends on how you define "Memorable". The seminal Honda 750, which changed the face of motorycling as we know it, is probably the most significant motorcycle of the second half of the twentieth century...like 'em or not! To my mind, that's memorable. And I won't even post a picture of a red '75 CB400F and get Court drooling all over his keyboard. |

The Hyabusa will be a memorable bike for sure. The Gold Wing is definitely memorable. The VFR? I couldn't tell one from any other plasticoated UJM. |

Ferris, now that you mention it, I believe I have the same problem. And yes, she does know I talk like that...and she loves it. And I can say that here and get away with it because she doesn't read BadWeb...I hope. Blake, if you don't think that a VFR is memorable, well, you must never have ridden one thru a curve sideways...while the very protective(not to mention anal) owner of said VFR follows just a few feet to the stern. Verrrry memorable. In regards to your earlier post to me; I hope you won't forbid personal attacks when they are between Ferris and me. With that sort of restriction, well, we wouldn't know what to say to one another! Dino |

Dino, I owned a '69 CB750 K 0, and a '74 CB400F. You're right. I hated that 750 more than any other bike I've owned. It even broke down in the middle of Kansas. It is memorable. I still wouldn't recommend one. The 400 was fun as long as you kept it wound up over 6,000 RPM. Otherwise, it was as exciting as cold oatmeal.I've also owned other Japanese bikes that I won't list now. Yeah, my posts were tongue in cheek, but there is a grain of truth to my statements. If Japanese bikes felt as good as a Buell, I'd probably be riding one. As far as the Lead Wing, I flat HATE them. If they were the only bikes made, I wouldn't ride. I guess I ought to change the title of that book to Desirable Japanese Motorcycles. |

Ferris, what does one get for a 50,000 mile vfr, i mean what are they worth, seems in the midwest, 10,000 is a lot of miles(generally) so after that there price drops quick ROger |

FB, Do I get to pick the road? Blake, how 'bout a best of three, and YOU pick one road, I pick one road, and we toss in a third -- previously unridden by either of us -- picked for its combination of tight and technical and long and leggy? how, exactly, do you like your Plasticoat served? Ferris, what does one get for a 50,000 mile vfr, i mean what are they worth? not sure, haven't checked lately, punch up kbb.com for a starting place. mine looks better than new, runs as good as new, i'm guessing $6-ish depending on condition? >>>And I won't even post a picture of a red '75 CB400F and get Court drooling all over his keyboard. PLEASE DON'T And, Blake.....I can vouch for the VFR. I'm not sure I'd class it as "memorable", but it's most assuredly been one of the most important bikes of our times, falls easily into a host of roles and is the benchmark quality is measured by. Crusty - A 1974 CB400F? You Sure? Was it pre-production? Yep, you had to rev the snot out of 'em...but they sure sounded pretty above 7K and you could spank 'em all day long, coast to coast. My best friend's Norton 750 Commando couldn't make it to the city limits. (Okay, that's an exaggeration. Sometimes it did make it to the city limits.) Ferris - Sorry, things were just too quiet around the house last night. |

Desirable Japanese Motorcycles. is this really true, this has got to be a joke, its still really is strange to me how people single out bikes by country origin, i really like most bikes i ride, and i dont care who built them, some have been more trouble than others, some have been more cramp than others, but i remeber all of them, especially if they won WSB or AMA superbike, can people really be so in love with one motorcycle that others look so bad, just seems odd, i mean the VFR is a great bike, my vfr 1000 was a great bike, but it had its problems(over heated a lot in traffic) my ninja has been a great bike, but now is a little cramped for me, my buell has tested me several times but i still enjoy riding it, the ducati i am looking at may be a great bike, but it has yet ot be tested, i even like my wifes 600 shadow, but the riding position is a bit odd for me(never really felt right on a cruiser) it just striks me as odd, everyone i meet likes several bikes from several companys, maybe i dont understand this hatred of past machines Crusty do you really dislike the KO or 400f, or do you like your buell more, better yet at the time did you like those bikes, just wondering |

Crusty & Grndskpr bring up interesting points. What makes for desirability? I remember a certain dark red and white BSA 441 thumper from my youth that I most certainly desire. Don't think I'd ride it...certainly not far. I'd sell my TV, put the BSA in its place and set a cooler full of dark ones next to my recliner. I might even let Ferris come over and stare at it too. Guess I'll have to get a bigger cooler. I also desire the new KTM 950 Duke. It has got to be about the perfect bike for my favorite local road. However, I'd have to keep it in someone elses garage so I wouldn't have to look at it when I wasn't riding. A few years ago Cycle World had an article in which they asked moto scribes and other luminaries to pick their favorite of the bikes they had owned. (I'm not sure that was the exact question, but something like that.) Peter Egan chose the CB400F...said he wished he still had it. Desirability is different things to different people. Harley was very well represented in the choices, and I have never desired a Harley. Buells yes, Harleys no. I'm obviously in the minority on that one. Dino |

Dino, you're right. It was a '75 400F. And for all their ability to rev, the RD350's and RD400's whipped them bad on the track. I had a RD350 for the track. I didn't like it either; even though it was a faster racebike than my Guzzi V7 Sport.(a very memorable and delightful machine) |

Yep, I loved my 400F, but I wouldn't have challenged my buddy on his RD400. I might well have challenged my other buddy on his 750 Commando, though. Odds are he'd break down on the way to the venue. I sold my 400F in 1983 in order to buy a new 750 Interceptor. That cured my lack of low end. |

Crusty Well I finally meet someone that owned a V-7 sport also. Mine was a 73 model. The first year that they had dual disc brakes....one of 150 made. Of all of the bikes I have owned. I wish I had keep that one. Very stable.......handled fantastic.......not much power. But the bikes I rode with at that time were a CH sportster--Trident--CB 750 Honda. Mark |

Blake - Not enough statistical data to sustain an intelligent discussion? Maybe Rall's post suggests a new thread; what bikes have you owned? which do you wish were still in your garage? why? |
