I had a GSX1300R and a ZX12R (not at the same time) and I know it is said that "you can't have too much horsepower" or "you can't go too fast" but these bikes are too much for me. Besides, the European countries have (informally?) stated that stock bikes cannot go faster than 187 MPH so I can't imagine the stock ZX14R going faster than that - uncorked.

Actually the ZX12R was designed to go 200 MPH - it had a development codeword with the numbers 300 in it (300 KPH) but the European countries told Kawasaki that they couldn't sell it there, so it was neutered before it went out the door, just as later models of the GSX1300R were also governed.

Jeeze. I can only imagine how that engine would be. Long thing too. Perhaps they are looking to make a sport tourer?

IMO, those plastic fins and the old school exhaust cans kill it. It just looks cheap to me. Perhaps I'll feel differently after seeing it in person.

The destruction caused at 187mph really should be no different than at 200mph.

Any physcists out there can elaborate on the forces caused by bike and rider hitting a wall.

Maybe the splatter pattern is larger and anything that splatters further than X distance at an initial impact of over say 188 will vaporize and be unobtainable for sample study which will throw the findings off by say .073%. Quite possibly I dont have a clew as to what I am talking about but it sounded good anyway. As far as the rider The difference will not be noticeable. I'm not in a hurry to check it out.

((M*Vē)/2) = Kinetic energy.

My uncle works in a hospital and he said that beyond a point,
a body tends to break on impact like hitting silly putty with a hammer.

The top speed is no longer the issue any more since the whole 300 kph limit. What the Busa and ZX12 where known for was getting to that speed the fastest. The ZX14 is supposed to blow them both out of the water.

The bike is considered a "super sport tourer".

I'm wondering what kind of fuel mileage it gets, how long chains last and what tire life is. I won't even try to guess what insurance premiums will be.

The Busa and the ZX12 take approx 20 seconds (on a good day) to hit max speed. "Blowing them out of the water" to me would mean hitting top speed in ~15 seconds and that ain't gonna happen.

The 1400 cc engine is actually 1352cc or 53cc larger than the Hayabusa. What the bike does have that makes it interesting are some unique diffusers for airflow. And Better brakes.

Kawasaki says 200 "ram air" and 190 "static" crankshaft horsepower. Even allowing just 12% driveline loss (probably greater) that still puts you at 176 rwhp. More than likely <170 rwhp on your local dyno.

That may let you win a race but it doesn't blow anything out of anywhere.

Let's just say that the Busa stays in my garage for a while.

Don't know about the "14" but I can tell you about the Busa.

Fuel mileage.......44mpg at 85mph

Chain..............Don't know haven't replaced one yet. Rider dependent.

Tires..............Rider dependent. My wife and I both got ~10k from the rears. (We're old farts.)

Insurance..........Full coverage $350 per year per bike. (Old farts)

It's nice, but it's not a Busa,,,,and it's for sure not a XX,,and it'll not be blowing either out of anything is my honest guest. The mags will show it soon or their version of it. I need to get one of the Euro rags to see how the '05 XX stacks up. Honda and their intutive genius quit the XX, US ver, after the '03.

It may be brand new but the styling is a cross of early 90's vfr (black naca ducts) and suzuki rf900/600 (fins). It looks dated to me.

It also brings to mind Don Johnson's car on miami vice. Ferrari had those fins in the eighties on the testarosa. It was cool and new back then.

I think I'm getting too old . . .

I can't understand the purpose of a bike like this. I just tried to renew my motorcycle insurance, the cheapest quote I found was $1800/year. This summer I was ticketed for going 68mph on a completely deserted backroad in rural VA with a 55mph speed limit. Two weeks ago I was pulled over for a small 1st gear wheelie leaving a stop sign. I didn't even carry the wheelie any distance, I set it down before I got into 2nd gear. The cop let me off, but he was angry with me. Frankly, I'm becoming afraid to even operate motor vehicles anymore. I feel like a criminal in hiding when I ride to work. What the heck am I going to do with a 200hp motorcycle??

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't want a massively powerful bike. I actually wish they'd make them with bigger motors. I'd like to see Triumph's new Rocket III motor stuffed into an FZ1. I just don't know what I'd do with a bike like that. I'd have to hide it in my garage and fantasize about what it's capable of without actually riding it. Heaven forbid the law found out that I owned such a thing, they'd take my license just for thinking about it.

The insurance on my 04 Busa was low because it was considered a sport tourer. Now if the ZX14 is looked at the same way the rates should not be that bad.

There's a turbo kit for the ZX10 that'll let you supposedly make 400hp but they suggest you stick to a more reasonable amount of 280...
And is it just me or does that look like a computer generated picture?

"fantasize about what it's capable of"

That's what most of us do with the bikes we have now!
Very few of us, myself included are capable of riding any bike to it's limits.
People that will buy this new Kawasaki will be even farther away from it's limits.
How long is the wheelbase on it anyway?

Looks like a good drag bike.

I'm like the other guy.. stupid fins, and can exhuasts.. ugly.

I like the FJR1300. more tour but plenty of sport. or the new stlye BMW k1200s. either bike with ohlins shocks would be a smooth ride. But I don't trust new fancy bikes with wires all over the place. So I'll stick with my carbed X1.

Sorry but that's a bit hard to swallow Dave. In fact this is perhaps the only reason when it comes down to riding that my S1W is such a worthy contender as its limits are not as far away as some other bikes limits are. Maybe this is the real fun factor in riding the Buell tractor.

If you'd have been out with us last Sunday where I was the only one riding a non Japanese bike and where that non Japanese bike was very clearly the underdog you like I would have found it very difficult if not impossible to have ridden it any harder. In the twisties I'd have needed slicks to have got it over any further and faster around any given corner. Plain speak there were many times that day that balls out was balls out, and not just from me.

Even the guys on the Blades and the GSXR1000 or ZX10 - they couldn't have ridden any faster unless they were as gifted as a pro racer but then again that's a tough call to make when everyone's riding street bikes on street rubber on the street.

Who's to say there aren't those amongst us who can't hold their own when pitched against a pro outside of the pro's working environment? The real facts are the environment is the limiting factor - not the bike nor its rider.

Now if you'd have said smoother, neater, that little extra bit faster, maybe you'd be right, but I'm under no illusion that bikes are often ridden to their limits, certainly on British roads. Maybe not ridden perfectly well but never the less the limit is still attainable no matter how ragged the edge.

I never ride my bike to the limit. Wouldn't even know what my x1 with XB stage 3 heads limit would be at. But it is ABOVE my saftey limit. I've never even taken a turn at 100mph. Most of the time its the normal full throttle take off from red lights then once up to speed I just put put.

After having suffered a wreck I am leary of old people, rv's, dogs, road debris, rocks, oil slicks, etc etc. The things that are not supposed to be on the other side of that turn. And when 100mph or 70mph over the speedlimit is un avoidable.

But when you're in a 30mph zone 30mph is your limit.

The limit changes with the road you're riding. Doesn't matter if your bike can do 180mph, if the corner ahead is a 60mph corner and you ride through it at 60mph then you are riding at 'the' limit.

That said I understand your point though I wonder why you'd tune your X1 in such a manner? I bet every now and again the little devil inside you sees that red rag and off you go balls to the wall. Resistance is impossible

Granted the exhaust placement isn't ideal like on our beloved Buells. Two low exhausts though makes it easier to put on saddlebags, than one high can.
