Maybe not Buell related, but the 2005 Iron butt is running and you can track the progress of some of the bikes here http://rally.star-traxx.com/rallyview.asp?Rally=30 Pretty impressive technology, even more impressive how far you can actually ride in 5 days. Searching thru the site records, it looks like 2 Buells have finished, James Hickerson on an S3 in 2003 and Fran Crane on an S3 in 97. Maybe someone will run a Uly in the 2006 Butt? | ||

Yea, too bad somebody didn't enter a Uly this year. Did you notice somebody actually started on a Boss Hoss (V-8)? I think he already was disqualified for being too late to a mandatory checkpoint. | ||

How many miles in how many days do they have to do? I found 700 to be pushing my limit on the Buell in one day. | ||

This past June my brother, neighbor and I rode 1600 miles in 32 hours. We rode 23 hours straight took a 4 hour nap and then finished the last 5 hrs alittle rested. We did it on two 03 XB9S with corbins and an 99 M2. We did a total of 3600 miles in 8 days. We have all our documentation just haven't sent it in yet. It may not be official but I am guess we are not the only people to do the Iron Butt the unofficial way. | ||

That is the Iron Butts extreme ride, but to become an Iron butt all you need is 1000 miles in 24 hours that is properly documented. I do agree with you Court, it is crazy that they have the endurance to do that. On the XB with a Corbin, you can ride all day. You would be amazed what your body can handle once it is in riding shape. | ||

Seems them IBA guys are always raggin' on the HD entries, but it's always the BMW's with the catastrophic mechanical failures. Was it 2001 when BMW made up 50% of the entries and 90% of the DNF's? Good to see the lone Sporty in 16th. I'd like to see that rally run Old School with stock gas tanks and paper maps. Who needs all that electronic IBA trickery anyway? I've done one (unofficial) 1000 mile day from south of Calgary to Denver, precipitated by a lack of empty hotel rooms in Douglas Wyoming more than anything. Took 18 hours, if I had planned it, I sure would have kept a brisker pace and stuck to the interstate. Damn lotta keister time on that bike. 4200 miles in 6 days. Aftermarket seat makes a huge difference. Them IBA guys are crazy! |
