From Bill O'Reilly on Fox News

Quote:

The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day

Time now for "The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day."

Last week, we told you about a two-time convicted felon currently incacerated here in California, who received a heart transplant at taxpayer expense. Well, the first bill has come due.

California authorities estimated the surgery itself would cost about $200,000. Wrong. The state has been billed for $913,000 for the heart transplant. California says it will appeal, but I don't know. And that doesn't even count after-care costs or anything like that. Well, we think the whole situation is ridiculous, as we said.

On the surface it sounds utterly contemptable. If the two time loser has money to pay for it, fine. But to saddle taxpayers with the bill when the donor heart could have gone to an insured honest person is totally wack. What are people in the Golden State thinking about this? Do they really support such liberalism?

Bill Reilly is in my opinion far and away the best reporter going and the only one I have any respect for. So by the time this is done it will have cost taxpayers at least a million dollars for this felon. If it wasn't for Modesto Buell I wouldn't care if the whole state sunk to the bottom of the ocen tomorrow. Of course this should happen when all the sacborgers are out of state!!!

Kinda like that new movie coming out where the guy holds up the hospital to get his kid on the donor list for a heart transplant because his insurance would not pay for it.
If some insurances wont pay for a heart transplant why should the gov?
Well I guess with it being Califonia I would only be surprised if they did not do it.
Are they giving tax incentive for Gay couples yet on the left coast?
Ooops I am on a role. Better quit.

Blake,
In the realm of California government and politics, that doesn't even scratch the surface of what the politicians and government people do out there.

Fer instance, how about giving a drug dealing gangster an honorary sherrif badge and permit to carry a gun and enforce laws just because he's a famous role model.

Flash and cash count for much in the California sun. I did what I could by voting and such, but I finally gave up on the golden state and sought life elsewhere.

Do a little research on the transplantee heart recipient and you may be surprised on the underlying factors that potentially contributed to his getting the favored status. You'll have to be good with name changes and cold trails though. Have fun.

I heard about that last week and sat bewildered for several minutes then I remembered; the scary thing is that seems as though what starts in CA spreads across this land of ours - gun control, smoking control, political correctness, free organs to deadbeats...

I dislike the "all men are currently equal" and the "if it feels good do it" crowd, they're wrong.

I love California the place. Mountains with snow. Deserts. Beaches. ROADS! (over)Crowded cities to (rapidly disappearing) rural areas! I don't much care for silly politics.

Liberal... I USED to think that Liberal meant things like Open Minded, not fearful of Change, and mindyourownbusiness type of freedom. I've really come to understand why the L word now has such a bad connotation.

Most people - many Californians included - imagine the mindset of the whole state as one of a bunch of rich Beverly Hills types or of a bunch of bleeding heart hippies or some such. The state is as diverse as its terrain.

I don't even want to know how the laws, policies, and stupidities came to provide some bung orifice of a human the right to a taxpayer sponsored organ transplant, but I don't much care anymore. I long ago decided against bringing kids into this silly world. Being a pessimistic Marcarian, I only see things going downhill - statewide, nationwide, worldwide.

The problem here, guys, is Southern CA, up here in the North, we do things alittle differently- Unfortunately, the SoCAlers way out number us, so they get undue say in the "political process",
which I think is mostly rigged in this state, anyways( and I did some research a few years ago with some REAL INTERESTING results, but that's another story...) If you come up our way, you'll find some real good people and some of the most fun roads in the country, so don't write us off yet!

It was a republican government that passed the state's 8 year old helmet law. California along with Nebraska are the two odd ball states that have (had) conservative governments opposed to freedom od choice.

Yup, all us SoCal foks are bleeding heart liberals. Why, in addition to paying for his heart, we should pay to send his offspring to college since he doesn't have the means to make income while incarcerated. What, you guys wouldn't? What kind of cold hearted animals are you?

NOT! I honestly don't know where these politicians come from that make these decisions. And I don't know the people that elect them either.

With a hispanic majority, catholicism to prevent birth control and a traditional democratic base, California will never again have conservative goverments. With politics and Hollywood firmly planted on the left its going to be interesting to see where the Golden State ends up. Not a place I would choose to live in. Georgia is liberal enough for me.

Now if they can just change the states official language to Spanish and not teach reading fundamentals, the coup will have been successful. On the other hand, the more educated a constituent base, the more conservative their nature...fewer children, less taxes...

Put it this way, every year for many years now there are active attempts to divide California into several smaller states. The recurring dividing lines follow the major population center boundaries. There are a lot of very good and decent people in California, they are just outnumbered by their opponents during election times. There are a lot of very nice places to live there, but unless you love living in a major metropolitan area you probably won't like the rules you have to live by. Things can change, and some minor improvements have been made (one major local victory against an injustice was actually spearheaded by a guy who rides a Buell, imagine that). Make your own choice, choose your fight on your own terms if you can, and work towards a better day to be.

bigblock,
Correct me if I'm wrong but when I lived in the bay area SF and DiFi were considered NorCal. Cities and senators don't come much more liberal or more idiotic than that pair. Babs Boxer is however, slightly more idiotic than DiFi.

I don't know what your prob is w/ SF, but it can be a pretty fun city. I don't live there myself, but I ride there regularly with a bunch of Bueligans, and it's always a blast. Maybe you're some kind of super conservative, or a gay hater, I don't know. I hope that's not the case. There's a lot more to SF then the gays and freaks and the f'd op politics and lame-ass politicians(which I wholeheartedly agree w/ you on) I'm no defender of any political crap around here, but the fact of the matter is, socal carries the statewide vote. Besides, politics is pretty much criminally corrupt throughout this whole country of ours, and anyone saying other wise, is either an idiot or a lier. And I'm no damn liberal, I vote Libertarian across the board! Anyway, I'm not attacking you, I just think that politics suck, and I like my part of the country a whole bunch! Actually, I'd say this whole line of talk is pretty f'd up, most Californians, I'd bet 99.9% would think this is a bunch of crap, and I'll bet there's some equally crappy, if different crap, going on in ALL of your guys States, so how about a little f'ing respect here, lets keep the politics seperate from the PLACE!!!

Bigblock,

Ouch that hurt! I'm neither and for the most part I agree with you. SF is as they say "a nice place to visit I just would'nt want to live there". I do disagree with you on one issue. I don't vote anything across the board, I vote for for who I think is best suited for the job. If I don't know where a particular canidate stands I leave that vote for those who do.

Cali is two different states. NorCal has the water and SoCal has the votes.

There is a huge rivalry between NorCal and SoCal, but SoCal doesn't know anything about it! ;)

Vik aka Eeeeek,
You're right about the NorCal-SoCal thing but there is even more to it. Many people disagree as to where the dividing line should be, some say north of SF some say south. I know there are a lot of people in towns like Ukia, Red Bluff and Weed who are tired of their taxes paying for freeways and water projects in SoCal and the Bay Area. There have been several attempts to get the state split issue put on the ballot. Heck if they did split it north of SF I might even move back. Some of my favorite riding roads are in that area.

Bigblock,
I lived in the Bay Area for fourteen years. The homophobe, ultra-conservative thing is the typical
defensive reflex of some people when you bring up some of the screwy political attitudes. I wish they would come up with a new tune. Preferably one that is based on facts and logic. I'm not putting you in that catagory, I have never met you. Please don't try catagorize me either, you'd likely be wrong.

Greg:-)

From what I have seen, I'd move to California in a heartbeat! I'm not a big fan of living in a big city. Kilgore, Texas at ~11,000 is perfect size for me. However, N. CA, and San Fran Rock! Don't let screwed up politics overly bias your opinion of a truly great state.

On its own, CA represents the fifth largest economy in the world.

Thank you Blake; and Greg, and I don't know you from Adam, and wouldn't think of categorizing you in any way, I've lived here in the Pt Reyes area 23 years, and I might get a little defensive, that's all...:-) Living where I do, generally we get political representation from NO ONE ! Our views wants and needs generally aren't met by Marin votes, let alone the rest of CA! Ray

But I do miss In 'n Out, El Pollo Loco and Sushi bars on almost every corner (in Gardenia at least)... 'Course now we have some of the same crazy politics here... Hmmm, Montana is looking better every day!
