Tony, I've got some stuff going on Friday, might head up that afternoon or else first thing Saturday. It would probably be easiest to meet in Appleton r just south of it if we're going to meet up. Otherwise we'd both be going well out of the way. Alex |

Terence Mann: Ray, there was a reason they chose me, just as there was a reason they chose you and this field. Ray Kinsella: Why? Terence Mann: I gave an interview. Ray Kinsella: What interview? What are you talking about? Terence Mann: The one about Ebbets Field. The one that charged you up and sent you all the way out to Boston to find me. Ray Kinsella: You lied to me. Terence Mann: Well, you were kidnapping me at the time, you big jerk! Ray Kinsella: Well, you lied to me! Terence Mann: You said your finger was a gun! Ray Kinsella: That's a good point. |

Jerry- I can see it now "Is this heaven?" "No, it's a Buell!" Alex & I will try and make it up to A-ton to meet you, probably leaving Sat. AM. If we don't get there in time we'll run into you on the road. The Mrs. was a little testy when I went on my trip to Arkansas. She thought the AZ Springfast would be enough for me. I still have a long weekend one coming up right before yours so I'll have to be a little careful how I play it. I'll see you one way or another though! |

Alex, Let me know when you get your route sorted out from Waterloo to KC. I'd like to meet up with you all somewhere between Des Moines and KC. Sounds like a great time! |

Jerry- I was going to ride the S3. She won't go much more than 10 miles with me on it (she wants me to get a Wing and I told her she'd have to find another husband). I'm trying to get her going on the ST but after a 100 miler around Leech Lake last week she needs more time in the saddle she said. |

Topeka will be locked on. The WORLD'S MOST AWARDED Harley-Davidson dealer will have the same pit crew (Bruce Zimmerman and staff) that supported owner Mike Patterson (racing for C. L. Canfield racing) to many 1st place finishes, waiting at sunrise to perform the 1,000 mile service on the XB12X. I may be there too. Plan on having a camera, doubtless one of the most impressive Harley-Davidson stores in the country. Court |

Court, this is grand news! this was one of the "black holes" left to fill on this ride, and one i've been doing some considerable fretting about. i've been asked by quite a few folks if there would be any high-mileage days on the Ulysses, as its worthiness as a "long haul trucker" is an important purchase consideration for some. well, on Tuesday September 6th i'll be riding from Kansas City, Missouri to Cripple Creek, Colorado -- i.e. i'm about to find out. and in the above western MO to eastern CO scenario - unavoidable, yet perversely desirable in this case - getting the bike serviced and back on the road in record time is CRITICAL. there will be a phalanx of riders waiting on me in Manitou Springs, Colorado that evening to see The Ulysses and i do NOT want to let them down. Court, you rock. Topeka H-D/Buell, you rock. i suppose i simply could have said "Thank you!" and left it at that (for now), but i think you know me a little better than that. that i could even call and ask this favor means the world to me, and to get up this morning, my head instantly swimming with to-do's that need to be checked off The List today, and read your post, well, this is simply wonderful news. the Ferris Bueller Rides Again Tour is happening, people. it's happening because of all of you. it's happening because Erik Buell and the men and women in East Troy have refused to quit. why, it's just frikkin' happening! Court, if i don't see you sooner, i'm looking forward to a "speed visit" (is such a thing even possible between us???) with you in Topeka. thank you. ride to lean. ride to roost. ride to ride. Bjack, I'll be working on what route we'll be taking early next week and will have everything posted by next weekend. It's been a busy week at work and I haven't had the time to get out and explore. Court, See ya in Topeka! Very cool! |

Jerry, As you go down I-70 stop for gas in my hometown, Hays, Kansas! Ok, so there is not much going on there but a gas stop between KC & Denver. Flat- no trees- wind blows all the time. That's Kansas. Looking forward to riding with you from Grand Junction to Cedar City. DBird |

Pikes Peak, EVERYONE goes up pikes peak. screw pikes peak. you should drop 550 into Ironton, then Gunnison and take the cross country jeep roads through Redcone and and Bridal Veil Falls into Telluride (Message edited by dsergison on August 04, 2005) |

Dsergison, the sad fact is that i can't do everything i, or you, think i should do on this ride. as i mentioned to you on another thread i've never done Pikes Peak, and since i'll be spending the night right at the foot of it, well, getting up early the next morning and bagging it seems reasonable enough. cross-country Jeep roads? sounds fabulous, and Colorado WILL entail some off-road (see below), but another sad fact is that i've only got two days to get basically from Grand Junction to Las Vegas, so there's a TON of great riding in Colorado and Utah that'll just have to wait for next time. Travis Scott (TBear) lives in Guffey, CO and is lending a much-appreciated hand in the getting-across-Colorado portion of the ride, and here's what he's got up his sleeve, lifted straight from the thread on Tale Section: "..then get up bright and oiley for the great ascent up Pikes Peak ! For photo op and general light-headedness. Then back down the hill and off to scenic Cripple Creek and then an adventurous ride down the infamous Phantom Canyon Road. (originally a narrow gauge rialroad, now a fine DIRT road). We will end up on hiway 50 heading west towards Canyon City and the Royal Gorge. For those of you that don't want to experiance Phantom Canyon road there will be an alternative route down High Park road and CR 9 to Hiway 50 near the Royal Gorge we could meet up at. From here we will follow the beautiful Arkansas river to Salida and then on to Monarch Pass and Gunnison, then Montrose for sure and maybe even the Grand Junction!" sounds like a great ride to me, and i hope you will consider joining us at some point. I havent'd been back to Co. in several years now. I miss the place so bad. I've been to many of the best riding areas. I only slam pikes peak because any vehicle can make it up there. The decent down Bridal Veil falls is a whole different story! If you go off the trail you'll be recounting Arlo Guthrie and writing your will on the way down. And Red mountain pass is top notch too. I envy your trip. have fun and make us a good travellog. best of luck, Dan |

thanks Dan, really appreciate your kind words. i'll do my absolute best to craft a piece when i get back that puts anyone who cares to read it right there with me every step of the way. btw, the first two days of the ride we'll be within shouting distance of East Peoria... FB |

thanks Snail, wish i could get up that far this time around. the Uly has your name written all over it - hope it lives up to its promise and someday soon there's another Buell in your monster garage. Pdx, a couple of things. first: BITE ME! ok, i feel lots better. can't make you any promises, but somewhere down the road i have to get Madducks's Uly to him (he lives in Minnesota), and what if i promise to ponder the possibility of doing a SoCal-to-Minne run via Starkweather Mountain and Crater Lake, Oregon? would THAT make you happy???
