I ordered springs from racetech. they are 270mm. my stock springs are 230mm. I called traxxion dynamics, their springs are also 270mm long. the tech at traxxion thought I was crazy. that there was no way my stock springs could be so short. Didn't someone here tell me that the racetech springs were too long, to get them a traxxion instead? anyway, that long thin tube on top is the spacer that you need to cut down, CORRECT? well, if I cut it down that much it will cease to be guided by the sliding fork tube. I allready cut 25mm off. so I'm kind of screwed now. I can try to tig it back together, or maybe order a new one. could there be some other spacer in the bottom of the tube I can take out? | ||

There should be no spacers on the bottom of the fork spring. The Race Tech equations for static spring length don't exactly equate to the proper sag #'s when you put things back together. I had to do a little experimentation to get all the numbers where I needed them. | ||

inquire at racetech- they research their stuff pretty well. I used to work in ahsop that did a lot of their emulators. every application is different for every model, esp. in the cas eof inverts | ||

The Racetech springs are the correct springs for the WP fork. YOu can use them in the Showa fork, but as you discovered, they are problematic! The good news is that the spacers are available - order them now though - it takes about two weeks to get them since Harley keeps them at a different "vintage" warehouse. The bad new is, it's darn near impossible to get a correct sag amount if you are less than 200 lbs. | ||

thanks. I've now talked to race tech and lindemann engineering. they both tell me the springs being too 270mm long is normal. that I won't have any trouble with the plastic bushing riding above the inner fork tube after I cut down my spacer. I mentioned, and both parties agreed it a good idea that I turn a pilot diameter on the spring end of the plastic bushing so it sets inside the spring a bit so that it can't shift over to the side any as a precaution. also, racetech said they carried and could get my springs in a 250mm length, but it would take months. | ||

The .95 Racetech springs I put in my X-1 a couple months ago were an exact replacement for the stock springs. The length and diameter were the same, went in the same, no cutting, no muss, no fuss. Sag is right, ride and handling are much improved. Sounds like you got the wrong springs. Mark | ||

Mark, I think you may have the wrong set, but it worked out for the best! I've installed a few of these sets, so I know it's not a fluke thing. Dserg, Give the forks a thorough going over after assembly - with too short of a spacer, you can feel the bushing hang up and drag on the lip of the tube |
