All week we have had heavy equipment tearing up the street and repaving, new sidewalks, etc, etc..... Well this evening as I was going in the house there is a giant excavator sitting in front of my door under the streetlight. I thought this would make an interesting photo I'd like to share. This was shot with my Canon Digital Rebel in Manual Mode using timed exposures.   | ||

Newfie, What's the model number on that? I would guess a 200CLC. I can get you more info! We build those in Kernersville, NC, but have a few at the playground at my plant. Really cool piece of machinery. We saw a ton of Deere stuff when we were up there last summer! Alex | ||

Alex, Its a 330CLC!!!! Its damm huge and with the arm extended higher than the houses, heck with just the middle section put up its as high as the house. I was going to put the S1 next to it but couldn't get it over the curb where the street is taken down. | ||

Neat shot. My dad was a dragline operator (how many of you know what a dragline is?); not one of those coal mine monsters, but a smaller one for digging ditches and irrigation ponds. Backhoes like the one above have replaced them for most work. I used to go to work with my Dad most Saturdays when I was a kid. He taught me to operate when I was about 15, but I haven't been in a dragline since I was about 20. I miss those times a lot... | ||

You guys with those digital rebels and all this low light photography are KILLING me! Anyone want to trade a 1911 (actually a 1991A1) for a digital Rebel setup? I like the .45, but where I live, the Rebel would get a lot more shooting  | ||

8.1 L engine (diesel of course), 148 gal fuel tank, 38' extended reach, 26'7" maximum digging depth and weighing in at 72,800#. Not too shabby. And yes, I could give you some operating instructions. A bit of attention is an understatement!!!! I'd love to try that out but I'd need to be in a very large area where destruction is not an issue!!!!!! 4mph over anything you want is pretty cool too. The arm on that was dropped that way so the guy across the street could still drive his minivan into his driveway. I could almost drive my Subaru under it!!!! | ||

Hey, I saw one of those in April...they had to use it to get my Explorer out of the ditch. The CAT was on the road, and the bucket was down by the Explorer. I get to use his little japanese cousin at work, lot's of fun. I can just imagine the size of the hole I could dig with that thing. The 4mph thing sucks though, like Office Space with the old man with the walker passing all the cars. Someone needs to put an end to that, is 8mph to much to ask? I know I'm never satisfied, but if I'd like more than 140 on my 12R(not that it needs it, but...), do ya think 4mph is gonna cut it? BTW great pic. I'm gonna have to look into those Rebels too. "...DUDE!! Hot wire it and take it into town..." I worked on a power-house near Slver City, NM years ago and we took off for a holiday weekend. When we returned Tuesday morning the dozer was missing w/ just a set of tracks heading south through the desert. The project manager and a couple deputies head off in the pickup and caught up w/ the thief a few short miles from the Mexico border. If they had even dinked around half a day before searching the fellow would have made it to the border. The poor guy, he must've been driving 24/7 the entire weekend and to make so close and be thwarted in the end. Oh well, that's why they say crime never pays. Rob | ||
