My 2000 isn't bad either. That pic i linked you to is always posted when I start chatting about Buells on Usenet. The guy who made the pic rides an old RC45. You want his email address?:-)

all of my buddies who own buells have few-to-no problems, as well.
'course, we all use extremely loose belts, big wix 51515 oil filters, we frequently change our oil as per factory proscription, and we all allow our engines to warm up for a good 60 seconds on hot weather, 2-4 minutes in cold...
ahh, what do we know?
"always equipment failure, never pilot error"
There are some absolute lemon-buells out there, as evidenced by "buells rule's" catastrophic citrus-clusterf***, but they don't seem to be the order of the day....

Hey Doughnut I have owned a Buell for over four years. This is the kind of stuff I have to deal with though. This is one of the many reasons why I really want Buell to get a new motor. I want to throw it in this guys face. People laugh at the Buells motor. Heck they showed a drag race once. A Buell against a Triumph Speed triple. The Triumph won the race and it happened to be doing a wheelie the entire quarter mile while still winning by a bike length IIRC. I hate when Triumphs beat Buells on two wheels let alone one.

.... like i've said, i worked in triumph service , i am still current on their service bulletins and on my tech rating with them...
your first lament, in starting this thread, is about some nebulous reliability issue with buells,
THEN you do some sort of bait and switch and compare buell to triumph in terms of performance??!??!?!
er..what about triumph's performance (HAR-HAR-HAR-HAR-HAR!!!!!) "reliabilty"??????
that is the funniest succession of posts i've seen yet, intentionally or not...
I say this in good humour, man- trust me i'm not trying to break stones, here...

Cool, thanks for realizing I was not trying to be a smart . Just trying to understand. I have an S2, VERY stock, never lets me down. I know that I am not going to be the fastest, or even close. Got my bike knowing that before hand. I can understand the frustration. I would really like to show up guys I know on other bikes. I have excepted the fact that I just have to rev it some so that I don't have to listen to them brag. I am the coolest though. My buddy had his front engine mount (?) bust on his S3. happens. It sucks, much more so when it happens to you.

Tramp why do you insist in saying Triumphs are not reliable? Provide me with some links of some of the newer Triumphs with some issues. I haven't heard of any. That and the fact their plant burned down a few years ago and they still managed to design and build the largest displacment production motorcycle while they continue to refine that wonderful triple motor. Even Honda doesn't make a motor with a larger displacment than the Triumph. The Speed triple is one of the baddest bikes out there behind the Buell of course. Not far behind though I can tell you that. Many will disagree with me on that though.All this said I tend to toss in a bit of sarcasm and humor with my posts. Some may not be laughing though. Maybe if Buell did the right thing and coughed up a new tail section for my bike I wouldn't be so bitter. A carbon black tail section for a 2000 Cyclone would do the trick.:-)Erik can send it to me here in K town.:-)

All bikes have issues,we just hear about the ones with the bikes we have.Here is a Triumph site I like,it has complaints about the bikes just as Badweb does.

I know a bunch of folks with the new Trumps and have not heard a bunch of complaints,and I have had 2.Still have my Sprint ST and love it---just love my S-2 more.

Hi Court,

My tail section has cracked in two places. Sure I have ridden two up with it on several occasions. Never thought the tail would crack though. Hal's HD tried to get Buell to replace it on a goodwill warranty when I had it in for inspection of the front axel or bearing seal. Buell customer service stated I lifted the bike up by the tail section and would not be replacing my tail section. Now who in their right mind would do such I thing? You have four bolts holding the section on and being plastic and all. Not a good idea. Personally i think if you lifted the bike up it would break the tail completely not just crack it. Also, my paint is cracking on my tail section as well. I called Buell customer service and they stated they don't cover paint. Gosh 9,000 miles on the bike and paint is cracking. What kills me is they have an explanation for my broken tail section that they refused to replace stating it was my fault but, nobody can tell me why my motor mount broke which still ended up costing me $50.00. So Court that is how it was taken care of. I have a cracked tail section with cracked paint. People think its funny to look at the tail section shake like the dickens at idle. They ask "do all Buells shake like this"? "Only ones with cracked tail sections" I say. Well how did it crack? I don't know I say. And there you have it.

if you're looking to the internet for maintenance issue stats, bon chance...
incidentally, firemanjim (great point about us discussing our own brand's maintenance issues, hence skewing our overall impression)- check the mileage on your pals' triumphs, check your mileage on your buell, and tell me what, exactly, is rotten in denmark.....
triumph guys do NOT put the miles on their machines that Buell and BMW guys do- those that do pay through the nose in maintenance...
don't get me wrong- i was fortunate enough to do testing on the first daytonas and speed trips, and the later speed trips were among my favourite bikes in terms of pure fun.
to this day, however, the longevity is still a sticky point with those trumps.

Has this topic really devolved to crack and tail?

I was heading to check out the Triumph Speed Triple at Lone Star HD/Buell/Triumph when they offered me a ride on their hot rod S1. I somehow immediately forgot all about the Triple.

I think the newer Triumphs are great reliable bikes. A friend has an old Trophy 1200 that I recently got to flog through some NW Arkansas twisties. Scraped the heck out of parts of it. Road like a lazy boy recliner. But it had a very wide smooth powerband. I think the Brit bikes are well sorted these days Jay (Tramp). That darn cushy seat though must be possessed by demons. After just twenty minutes of riding on what I had initially thought was ultimate luxury compared to my '97 Cyclone, my arse was screaming. Soft big and cushy does not guarantee comfort. I'd take a pine board over that seat! LOL.

Just one bike and some others of friends (Bob and Deb G.) is all. And some fellow riders on the road who swore up and down that the Trump Sprint was "the best motorcycle there was." : )

Interesting story, Blake. I was actually decided on the Ducati S4, when on a lark I went to Bob Dron's Harley Buell in Oakland and saw some romping X1's. I was smitten and the rest is history.
