Isn't this the type of bashing that "we" complain about from other riders?

"These new Buells will have the same specs as the current models. The same old lump of a motor. No real radical changes at all. Triumph can come out in 2005 with a beefed up redesigned Speed triple and the largest displacment cruiser on the planet while Buell HD gives us new models with upgraded hand grips and clear body work. Big deal!Gosh let me sell my Cyclone and go out and buy one ..........NOT!I wish Buell tried as hard as Triumph. When Buell builds a balanced vtwin as light as that KTM with superior torque numbers I will take a closer look at them again. I am content with my Cyclone.

Mike"

ummm.. mikey- I worked for triumph for years in the late 90s (the bmw distributorship i worked at took on the line)... Those things had and have (i keep up on 'em) far more maintenance issues than buell could dream of... really insanely stingy w-time rates for techs, as well. the engine designs are inane, and the quality of metals is garbaggio...
The boys down on peachtree do what they can, but the UK mothership still pours out potmetal posture-sleds with the life-expectancy of fruit-flies.... (speaking of warm beer)

Mike, the XB remains the cutting edge of MC design. You won't see new motors, frame etc 3 years after the last new motor and frame. I am sure there is a whold line up of radical bike planned (and the City X is a radical new model tha uses a bunch of common parts, this keeps cost down and give Buell a chance to survive.) The XB rivals such bikes as the CB750F in terms of how much it has shaken up the marketplace and the world of MC design.

I never said the bikes were bad only that they were the same as last years models and the year before. Tramp, Triumphs are fine bikes. Very well built and their customer satifaction ratings in this century are higher then BMWs. You were there in the late 90s. How was Buell building bikes in the late 90s? Sure Valve adjustments are not easy on those triples but, Triumph still makes a high quality motorcycle. I hear plenty of raves about that Triumph triple motor for its smoothness, sound and with the 2005s improved torque. You really can't bash Triumphs nowadays. They have come along way in a very short time.

Mike

Steve,

Look at the history of Buell. How much did the Tube framed bikes evolve over the years? Also, HD owning them it is obivous we will be seeing more of the same bikes with different tires and plastic. Oh wait we will have hard bags as well. I can't see replacing my M2 anytime soon.

thank you 'anonymous'
and mike, not to focus on your statements, but-
what a nebulus vaguery to say 'triumphs are fine bikes'
...as i stated in the post prior to that, "i keep up on 'em"...my tech I is current (as of Nov. of last year) and I receive service bulletins as they come out. I also enjoy the perque of testriding 'em frequently. They are still essentially mutated GSX mills made with far, far inferior alloys. You will NOT see many go past the 150k mile mark, and those that do have had so many parts changed that very little remains of the original machine.
There is little quality to the materials or wokrmanship of the modern triumph. the hideous alloys they use are reminiscent of the same, porous slag that their WWII vehicles were smelted of... Metal fatigue is the order of the day with modern-day triumph.Inasmuchas the orignal triumphs were made from 'unobtanium', the modern incarnations are carelessly wrought of "fragmentite"...
maybe the worst attribute of them is the fact that they are essentially english m/c tech imitating japanse m/c tech, which originally imitated english m/c tech...sort of like the 4th generation michael keaton clone in 'multiplicity', these things are so inbred that their engines sound like "Aintree" banjos.......
I DO agree with you about the devolution of the tubers once Harley got their catatonic meathooks into the once vibrant machines, and I won't be trading MY S2T in for any new Buells either...
But I won't bash something I've never even seen or ridden...doing that is essentially just bashing one's own ignorance....

I think Anony up there might have some insight into things : )

I'll be heading out to Denver for the unveiling & test rides (my palms are sweating as we speak) and I will be uploading quite a few pictures at the Liberty Sponsored area, plus technical specs, anything I can glean from the people there as well as the man himself.

This new model is a big deal, that picture wasn't supposed to be leaked until after the unveiling. Remember, there is another model due out, and Buell has not let one infinitesimal peep out about it. Big, big things on the very close horizon.

I think Anony is laughing his/her Buell blue colored azz off at us right now.

I for one have the patience to wait until saturday to find out the good news.

No really, I can wait.

Really, I can??

Oh hell, my legs aren't long enough to ride a bike like that anyway.....
(but I could give her one hell of a try until I had to stop)

When are we going to see the bike on the other page? Looks like a fairing mounted mirror with a built in turn signal.

Moments after the unveiling in Denver, the public Buell website will be updated. Trust me, there will be virtually no lag in when we all find out what's going on.

Now, if I can sneak my video camera into the general session...

I want a 150 hp firebolt

Hell, I want a 100hp rear wheel stone stock firebolt.

I want more than 85RWHP from my X1 without engine work.

I want alot of things.
I want an American Sport Bike.

I feel they make American Street Bikes.

I'll cheer up when I see them I'm sure.

JEZUS WITH 1200 CC'S WHY DOES A 600 CC FZ6 (retuned, upright tourng seated, half faired r6) HAVE MORE POWER?

THERE, I SAID IT!

Does Buell want sales? post some HP NUMBERS!

I don't ever want to hear about torque again. torque means . it's 1/2 the story, the only 1/2 buell has, nothing more. I'll see your 90 ftlbs and I'll raise you 7,000 rpm. area under the curve, balloney

ok, i'm done

Interesting article from the UK's MCN:

quote:

July 11 2005
New bike sales rise
Bike sales for June were up 2% compared to June 2004 – according to the Motor Cycle Industry Association.
Adventure sport remains the fastest growing category of bike. Compared to June 2004 sales of this style of bike are up 41%. The BMW R1200 GS continues to be the biggest selling bike in the category - as it has been for the first six months of the year.
Figures for the year to date (ie Jan-Jun 2005) show Adventure (27%), naked (16%) and custom (10%) continue to be the three biggest growth sectors and together they now account for one-third of all new motorcycle registrations. Versatility, it seems, is becoming more important to buyers.
Craig Carey-Clinch, the MCI’s Director of Public Affairs said, “Even though the weather has been variable this year, more bikes are being registered as people realise there a plenty of different types of motorcycles and a diversity of things you can use them for. Trail riding, commuting, holidays, touring, long distance over-landing, leisure riding or track days are some of the activities riders of all ages, experiences and abilities are enjoying.”
Despite all that, the biggest selling bike in the UK remains one of the most focused - the Suzuki GSX-R1000, with 1772 sold so far this year. And the top 10 remains dominated by full-on sports bikes.

Top 10 sellers this year so far:
1. Suzuki GSX-R1000 (1772)
2. Honda CBR1000RR (1421)
3. Honda CBR125R (1372)
4. Kawasaki ZX-6R (1121)
5. BMW R1200GS (1109)
6. Yamaha R1 (1085)
7. Yamaha R6 (1053)
8. Honda CBR600RR (974)
9. Honda SCV 100 Lead (936)
10. Suzuki GSX-R600 (887)

Dsergison,

For the same reason that it took 1000cc and 5 cylinders to beat the 500cc four cylinders in Moto GP! DIFFERENT ENGINE TYPES!!! There I said it myself.

With any bike if you bend the rim far enough you're walking home. the bead will be lost well before the rim hits the rotor.

I'm not talking about the rim hitting the rotor. Since the ZTL is bolted to the outer rim, any damage to the rim tweaks the rotor as well. There's only so much room in the caliper to deal with it. It would only take a minor bulge to make the bike unrideable...but Blake is probably right.

"Since the ZTL is bolted to the outer rim, any damage to the rim tweaks the rotor as well..."
Any damage? Not so. Take another look at the wheel, Rick_a - the rotor does not mount to the rim, it is intentionally "isolated" from rim deflection via the standoff towers to prevent such an event from occurring - in most cases. Dynamic impact testing in the development of this wheel proved that it works!
