Tales Of Brave Ulysses You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever, But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun. And the colors of the sea blind your eyes with trembling mermaids, And you touch the distant beaches with tales of brave Ulysses: How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing, For the sparkling waves are calling you to kiss their white laced lips. And you see a girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise, And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea. And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body, Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind. The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers, And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter. Her name is Aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell, And you know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands With tales of brave Ulysses; how his naked ears were tortured By the sirens sweetly singing. The tiny purple fishes run lauging through your fingers, And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter. HBJ "Mistakes are the portals of discovery." --James Joyce |

Now, I just got back from baby's, big white house on the hill. I said, I just got back from baby's, big white house on the hill. If her lovin' don't get me, I know her husband will. |

So, what kind of significance does that name hold for us? There was a General Don Carlos Buell that served with Ulysses S. Grant. Interesting. |

I wonder if Erik Buell is related to Don Carlos Buell? (Message edited by seanp on July 16, 2005) |

If you type the words Buell Discovery into Google, the first link that pops up has the following as its accompanying text: "Discovery Adventure Bike XB12X Ulysses A great Harley / Buell Discovery Engine Building, Technical Support, Parts & More, RallyRaid UK web site ..." The website is for Hog-Wild racing, some guys that race a Harley-powered bike. They've raced Pike's Peak and are getting ready to race the Dakar Rally. But the XB12X text is from an ad from one of their sponsors, Bartel's HD-Buell. It says, in text that's almost the same color as the page background, Bartels Harley Davidson / Buell Discovery Adventure Bike XB12X Ulysses And I see that someone posting anonymously has already posted this - I was going to post it yesterday, but didn't want to let the cat out of the bag. Guess it's been done! My guess is the "Discovery Adventure Bike" is an Adventure-Tourer or Dual-Sport. The XB12X Ulysses is possibly the fully-faired monster that someone had mentioned in another thread... (Message edited by seanp on July 17, 2005) |

Good find Sean. I did a search for "Buell Discovery" about a week ago and found nothing, so that's a very recent addition. Man, just one week to go. It's gonna be a long week... |

So, the adventure bike is the Discovery, possibly a Blast derivative? And the Ulysses is what? Based on the XB12, but physically larger, capable of carrying a greater load? The name Ulysses certainly suggests great strength... But the V-rod motor... I dunno. It is a magnificent piece to be sure, and Harley's best motor. But didn't Erik once say, in response to the Buell+Revolution suggestion: "Too big, too heavy, and too expensive!". Not to mention fuel-thirsty. Not a likely fit for the light and efficient Buell design philosophy. Fascinating to speculate, though. |

Erik has said that water cooled engines were unnecessary. He's acknowledged that he may respond to a market demand for a water cooled bike, but that it would not be a replacement for the existing bikes or technology. |
