Im am thinking about putting the 55 tooth rear sprocket on my Buell.I have the 29 tooth sprocket on the front allready.I have some motor work done so its far from stock.I'm just wondering how much different it will pull,if I will loss gobs of lower torque,to have a bigger top end.A friend has a Baker six speed on a Buell basically identical to my set-up,and I'm thinking this may help me keep up with him on the top side. | ||

Rich, talk to bill, he had the Euro gearing on his bike. I believe he went back to us gearing. Not sure. | ||

With the euro front sprocket and the american 61 tooth rear,I am going to rev limiter in fifth now.But my motor has been tweeked on abit. | ||

100 English shire horses at the rear wheel and full Euro gearing will give you a tall 5th gear. I find it a happy medium between wanting more instant arm wrenching pull from low down the rev range in top and a perfectly usable top end performance. Truth is if you want balls out performance whilst cruising along at 70mph in top you will find yourself wanting to cog it down a gear. You simply can't have it both ways. 3000rpm in top is about 65mph given wind direction etc. Rocket | ||

29 tooth front was not a Euro only thing as it was the stock set-up on the U.S. S-2's and on some S-3's. | ||

I had the Euro 29-55 gearing on the M2. It dyno'd at 89hp. It would not pull past 5500rpm and topped out at about 125mph. After changing to the US 27-61, the bike would pull to 6800rpm, and do about 140mph. | ||

"Horses for courses", as they say in England. I've got the 29/55 combination on my T-Storm motored S2 and really like it for all around street use. The lower gears are fine for most secondary two lane roads while 5th is perfect for making time on the high speed expressways around Toronto. I find the relaxed nature of the taller gears adds to my enjoyment of what I believe to be a stellar motorcycle. I love riding the S2.  If I'm in a hurry, I can always just hang onto a lower gear a little longer. The 29/61 combination (up from the stock 27/61) nicely suits the nature of my S1, and works well on our local road racing courses, too. Tried the 29/55 combo on the S1, and with it's stock T-Storm motor and limited aerodynamics, found it too tall to be effective. Provided nice, relaxing highway cruising, though. Keep in mind: I'm no drag racer. | ||

thanks for the input guys,I'm going to stick with my 29/61 combination I now have.Even though I have been told if you can pull redline in your top gear,you need to be geared higher,I'm thinking that THATS fast enough for me.It pulls hard all the way thru fifth,to the rev limiter,and thats a good thing. | ||

A good running stock T-Stormed S1 using a 6800rpm race ignition and 29/61 gears will pull to an indicated 145mph before hitting the limiter. I guess with a modded motor, you're just getting there a little sooner. All research conducted on closed course racing circuits under the tutelage and scrutiny of legal council. | ||

Do some Buells come with rev limiters? Or is that an accessory? I have an '00 M2 and don't think it has one. If it does, I'd probably have to hire somebody to find out if it working. I'm a conservative rider, enjoying the "golden years" and just can't seem to find a need to exceed 4500 RPM in any gear and that rarely. :>  They used to say, "There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are damn few old, bold pilots". I'm thinking that works for bikers too. Jack | ||
