A dealer near Montreal did Ducati demo ride today. First time an official Ducati demo ride was organized in Canada (they said). I tried the 999, the ST4s, the Multistrada 1000 and the S4R. That was really a fun afternoon!!! I didn't like the 999. the riding position is extreme and really not confortable. You have to ride it hard and fast to be confortable. Really not an everyday bike. Probably very funny on a track but not on the street. I loved the power, the riding position and the comfort of the ST4S, very nice sport touring bike that is a more sport than touring. The Multistrada is a fun bike to ride. Good power, relatively small bike and smooth suspension. But a bit strange looking bike. The S4R is a really nice bike too. Very good looking naked bike, good power and nice suspension. Avery good all around bike nice to ride in city, on highway and backroad. They are all very nice bikes but a bit too expensive for my taste. |

You didn't try an SS? Not available? 749? S2R? Cycle World magazine just picked the MultistradaS as its favorite dual-sport(?)....over BMW! Glad to hear you had a fun day thrashing the Ducs!! How good can it get. |

Unfortunately the SS was taken by someone else on every ride. Since I tried the 999, I didn't really need to try the 749. The same for the S2R. After trying the S4R, there was no need to try the S2R. The Multistrada was really a nice bike to ride. It's a very versatile bike. Nice to use on every day and probably as nice to use for long trip. Comfortable on rough road (we got lots of rough road here). I really like to ride that bike. The only problem with that bike is the look. It's not too bad but compare to my XB...... |

Have to say I borrowed a 749S for a whole day before I got the Buell. It was the insurance and servicing costs that killed the deal, otherwise the 749 was in a different league compared to my Firebolt. |

Congratulations! '95 900SS/SP Pure class. Rode and written into history and legend by none other than HST, now a graduation ride. Couldn't have been done better! Best wishes for much success and happy miles. |

Congratulations on the graduation. Went to a local Ducati demo this weekend. Rode an S2R on Friday afternoon. Nice bike but I'd have to change out the handlebars, and think the larger engine would have felt a little better to me. Saturday morning I was signed up to ride the Multistrada but couldn't get past the way it felt so I changed to an ST4 for the demo ride. Nice bike, felt better than the S2R and less scrintched up than the Multistrada. I probably should have rode the 'strada as well but didn't. Didn't try any of the more aggressive bikes. The guy in front of me on the ride was on a 999(?) and was a little squirrely on it, and he almost stalled it at one intersection. I did learn of a few more local roads that I've missed somehow, now will have to go try to find them again since while on the ride I was more focused on riding than on paying attention to where we were at. Bunch of gravel in the roadway in many places though, and did get a little occasional slippage sometimes, but no real problems. Liked the Duc's, but didn't like the $1400~ the shop offered in trade on the S2, nor the $2400 offered on the M2~, nor the combined $3600~ for both. Buells, good to ride, not too good on trade. (Prices may vary from actual offered amount due to demo-ride-itis and memory-fail-itis, your mileage may vary, subject to local conditions and weather variances and gravel induced adrenalin pumpage....) If this is Monday I must be at work - bummer. |

thanks all, for the congratulations and compliments it's nice to be done. and i have the piece of paper to prove it now....! no red helmet! only 1 helmet and it's a black shoei w/smoke visor (on the ground behind me in the pic). there's a helmet law in VT and not in NH, so i had to wear it on the ride to school, but wore just the bandana to lunch. also, the gown was only a poser pic, decided that getting it caught in the chain would be an ugly thing, so i put it on and hopped back on the bike for the pic! i've been to 1 ducati dealer that allowed a test ride (Motoprimo in minneapolis, MN - a bit snotty but they let me take a monster out for a ride). my "local" dealer, for 3 more days til i move to milwaukee, BCM Ducati in Laconia, NH, just had a demo day where you could test ride every bike. prob best to check the ducati website to see when a demo day in your area is if you want to test ride one. whats funny is that the harley-buell dealer in st paul MN doesnt allow any test rides to people they dont know. so it really does vary by dealership. ftd - see ya in FL. josh - see ya at homecoming. all - come ride in milwaukee, WI (my new hometown!) Dora, Sorry I didn't know you lived in the area! It would have been fun to hit a few of the local roads. I have a group of friends that's always looking for an excuse to hit the road. Re SPHD, they usually let anyone do a test ride. You must have hit the wrong sales person. I do however agree with you on the MotoPrimo front. They are a bit on the snooty or snotty, take your pick. It sounds likeit's going to be OK riding weather tomorrow and Wed, still time to take one last ride in this area! Brad BTW, congrats on the graduation! Which degree did you finish? Just curious... |

buelliedan - of all people to be asking! she's your wife!!! to everyone else, this is a sorta inside joke from BRAG homecoming where people had me confused with buelliedan's wife. my answer to them "nope, i'm dora and i'm medium - her name is ceil and she's small" because she's a tiny little thing! brad - i was in minneapolis last summer. i am currently in vermont (and just finished school across the river in new hampshire), and am moving to wisconsin on thursday - did you get all that!??! SPHD is great, they took good care of me there - they just mentioned that they "usually" dont let people test ride, but they let me....who knows? if you ride with any of the buellers in town, you probably know nils who works at SPHD and rides either a XB12R or a CityX and his friend richard with the sv650 - tell them hi for me. also, there's a gorgeous red duc monster 900 ridden by a huge guy named hanns who goes to motoprimo a lot - tell him hi too if you know him. my favorite stop is for black cherry ice cream in afton (or prescott?) on the way back from the WI alphabet roads just got my MBA (masters in business administration) from the tuck school of business at dartmouth. c'mon, you didnt want to google for what the robe sleeves and masters hood colors meant....? crazy bat wing sleeves = masters degree. "nugget" color on hood = business and green satin on hood = dartmouth. dont know why its called a hood, more of a scarf thing! (Message edited by buellgirlie on June 13, 2005) |

Steve, I posted about it here on the site someplace buried in one of the many subthreads, might even have been indirectly on topic. I think the next Duc demo stop is mid-Ohio, or the Vintage Days, unless that's the same time/place/thing. I'm thinkin' right about now if I saved up all my pennies and did some horsetrading and accumulated 15 Buells they just might trade me straight across for a Duck (I would have said "Duc", but there's a thunder squall passing overhead right now so "Duck" seemed more appropriate ). Just wish I'd had time to do about 6 more test rides. ps, Current count is: Southeast Sales: won't even consider a Buell on trade-in. Course Duc/Ozaukee Suzuki: will grudgingly consider a Buell on trade-in. I'm beginning to think Buells are like tattoos - you'd best like them a lot if you get one or two 'cause you'll have them for a long while or pay deeply to get rid of one of them. (Okay, after that tattoo analogy I think I'd better go hide under a rock for a few days.) (Message edited by mikej on June 13, 2005) |

Buellgirlie, congratulations on the graduation. In 1996, I had a Ducati 750SS. fun bike to ride but really too slow for me. But that bike was so nice.

stou - how fast do you need to go? do you have a hayabusa in the garage??? then again, i've never been on a 750SS, only ridden a monster 620 and my 900 SS. jeremy - i'm 2 years older than you, graduated high school in 1993 and about to hit the big birthday of 3-0. so hush up, young one |

Buellgirlie, I don't really need a Hayabusa but the 750SS was really slow. Any 600 bike of that time (1995) was a lot faster than this 750. In my garage I have my 2005 XB9SX and a 2001 Yamaha FZ1. R1 engine in a more comfortable and practical bike. |

yes, real life does start now. but its starting with a move to my first house (always a renter before, now a homeowner!), a graduation trip with my parents (italy/greece), and then starting at a great job. the only downside is that i am turning the big THREE-O in less than a week. i'm actually really looking forward to "real life"! |

Congrats Dora. I just turned the 3-1... I started "real life" ten years ago. Went a different route than you (military). You'll make a bunch more $$$ than me, but I retire in 10 years. I don't know if that's a good trade or not? Money or time? What's it all worth... All I know is school, college level anyway, just wasn't for me. Didn't have the attention span. I'm going to college via net-courses while I'm in so I'll have something to do when I get out... Anyway, I hope you enjoy what you're going to do. That's the most important thing in life; I think... |

And i rode a 919 last night.. LOL what a Co-Ink-E-DINK... one of my karate students pulled up in one and he always wanted to ride a buell so we headed down the street, Nice ride... REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE! but i dig the single sided swing arm.. he picked it up for like $4K. i was liking it.. |
