I haven't seen any posts in this discussion about carrying an emergency belt on trips. The big twins have one that just snaps together to get you to the nearest garage etc. I haven't found one for the smaller Sportster/Buell belt. Anyone out there know of it??? |

i carry a master link to fit my Tsubaki 530 Sigma o ring "alloy steel segmented drive belt" fits under the seat of my lightning, along with an 8 inch adjustable wrench, a couple torx keys, some allen wrenches, spare H-7 headlight bulb, half roll of electrical tape, tire pressure guage, few zip ties, some spare fuses, taillight bulb, and the rear shock adjusting spanner. |

"Let's see, remove rear brake, rider footpeg mount, belt guards, sprocket cover, swingarm brace, idler pulley, loosen axle. Wrestle with new (tight) belt, install without flexing, rinse and repeat if desired. Oil change is just 5 chin fairing bolts, oil drain plug and filter." Be sure to loosen the axle before you remove the swingarm brace . For the record... I broke a belt landing a jump on a 12R (I left the throttle on too long and the shock load snapped it where there was already an 1/8" hole from a rock). That was 10K miles ago and the new belt looks fine. That's after four rear tire changes too... The belt lasted about 3K miles with the hole in it and it broke landing a jump... I don't blame the belt. The fact that there's no slack in the belt at all and that I don't need to clean the muck off my pretty amber wheels makes any disadvantage (although I see none) worth suffering. |

I'd be really impressed with a shaft drive conversion! |

Shaft drive, that just is not my taste. I don't think it would sell very well. |

Somebody get off their butt and invent a belt that is the same width of a chain and as strong (or stronger!) I'd do it, but for er... well... oh yeah, I can't fit it into my schedule! yeah -that's why! AL |

I have left my belt guards on and put 25,000 miles of hard mountain riding, rolling burn outs, couldn't count the # of wheelies, and flat out racing and then changed the belt. only got to put about 5,000 on the new belt then I had to put the XB9R to rest. I now have an XB12R that I have thought about the chain. How long has the chain and sprocket lasted? What was the total cost for the kit? I'd like to get more track time and we have about 3 or 4 great tracks not to far from the metro Atl. area and with the different tracks I might gear per the track conditions or sizes. |
