18yr. old kid and his friend were racing down the free way here in boise this last friday. Doing approx. 80mph these two idiots were racing through traffic on a friday afternoon of all things. The kid on the bike and the guy in the BMW M3 were racing down the freeway and came up to the point in the road that bleeds off into town, the speed limit in this section is 45mph and its on a big turn. Apparently the dumb kid has no idea how to lean a bike because he rode straight into the barrier....no breaks lights no nothing...just smack! this idiot flew over the wall and into oncoming traffic heading the opposite direction. oh yeah the lived too. He just had a helmet on, long sleeve shirt and some jeans and a pair of tennis shoes. he didn't break a single bone, just got a tear in his jeans and a minor scrape on his leg. Sushie Bike rider was also hit with a wreck less driving ticket and his buddy was nailed with the same thing.
Well i hate to say this but i am glad the got his handed to him for riding like an idiot at the same time i think the only way the kid is going to learn his lesson is going to be when he has pasted half his body on the pavement.

And what pray tell does the type of bike the kid was on have to do with this? You think Buell riders have never done anything stupid? Goldwing riders or HD riders?

Folks should knock off the asinine stereotypes regarding riders or bikes.

well... to be a total pedant; sushi actually refers to the way the rice is prepared... not to the raw fish... and certainly not to motorcycles!

The comparison could be made between the careful preparation of the rice and the careful preparation of a blinged-out bike with absolutely no tread wear on the sides of the tire...

or maybe just your classic typical young kid riding the ever so common japanese motorcycle doing something completely stupid therefore may as well call him a squid and that is close enough to fish and sashimi to me.

Is wreck less the same as reckless? I mean can you be reckless AND wreck less?

Sashimi is more the preparation and presentation of the rider after a sliding impact without protective gear. Probably a more apt description. Unfortunately, the "long pig" doesn't do very well without cooking.

We all have our prejudices as Greg pointed out. Gravity and physics work just as hard on cruisers as sportbikes - when the attitude exceeds the ability.

Exactly Steve, plus I get tired of the references to anyone who is a bike other than a Buell being referred to as a squid or whatever. The rider of the japanese bike crashes & you folks here almost laughing about it & calling them morons. Yet if its a Buell rider who crashes...even if he was riding like a complete jerk...then its all sympathy & hugs. How does anyone know if these riders of "other" brands own a Buell thats in their garage or not? Not everyone is pigeonholed to 1 single bike or brand.

Hmm how would I be labeled? Squid because I have the R1? Wannabe poser rider because of the HD? Or perhaps "buddy" because I have the X1? More & more it seems like the prevailing attitudes of the newer folks here are leaning towards being prejudiced against other brands & or the riders who own them.

you need to refer back to the 18 and riding stupid part. unfortunatly the japanese bikes and young inexperianced riders seem to go hand in hand more or less because they are the more easily available and popular bike. believe me if i found that a moron was riding his/her buell like this i would consider them just as stupid.
p.s just because you own a japanese bike doesn't mean you need to get your panties in a bind. i am just as much a fan of r1's rc-51's gsxr-1000's and cbr 1000's and any other sportbike for that matter. i am not a fan of the high rate of stupid kids that ride them and make a bad name for them.

I agree with all the sentiments expressed in this thread. Now that Buells run for more then two weeks at a time ( ; ) ), the influx of squids has been enormous.

And squidly is as squidly does. I, as a mature and seasoned former Cyclone owner, effectively wrecked my brand spanking new XB9SX before it had 1000 miles on it thinking I for some reason should be chasing a WERA fully sponsored racer on a fully race prepped GSXR-750, riding on roads that he knew completely and I had never been on before, and him on full race rubber.

Rode the damn thing right off the road, it was only by the grace of God (and low unsprung weight) that I did not fall over and that it was smooth grass. I was more surprised then anyone when I just rode it right back onto the road like nothing happened. Classic Squid Stunt, I was lucky I got such a good lesson absolutely for free. It forever changed the way I ride.

That being said, it's crazy to think that a new rider on a modern race replica won't get further over his head quicker then somebody with a brand new cruiser. You do something stupid on a sporty, and you will probably learn a hard lesson at 50 mph. You do something stupid on an R1, and you will probably be at around 100 mph before the "houston, we have a problem" call reaches the control center. Hell, at 100, you may just be finished going from first to second gear!

So I agree with the "squids ride all brands" rule, and think its stupid to generalize on imports versus domestics. But to say you will find just as many squids on cruisers as sportbikes is just plain nuts.

i think anytime you put the equation of:

young+male+sport+lack of experiance+ego+just plain stupid+public streets+2 wheels it will always come out the the same answer.

Its got nothing to do with owning a "japanese" bike. If this kid had been on a Buell would you be here crowing Well i hate to say this but i am glad the ••••••• got his ••• handed to him for riding like an idiot?

You are glad someone screwed up & was in an accident? Thats just plain wrong & its that attitude which gets my "panties in a bind".

So What!!!

Man, you guys keep up with posting every friggin' accident in the USA, much less the world, and it won't be long before everyone suits up like the OSHA Cowboy and rides below the limit. If they ride at all.

You saw it, you read it, you learn from it. In over 40 years of riding I have seen my fair share of death and destruction and we learned from it without having to be exposed to it virtually daily on the Internet.

If you are posting a "how to" article on street smarts, I will accept that. However, to keep posting every crash'n'burn in the world makes no sense unless you get off on the fact that someone else messed up and you are so perfect.

Sorry about the rant, but I really am tired of all this death and destruction reporting. There are dumb people in every walk of life and if you choose to gloat on their stupidity, send it to the National Enquirer. Hell, they are not even interested as idiots find a new way of killing themselves daily.

I'm with Outrider on this. What's the point? I'm tired of hearing crash and burn show and tell.

It's depressing to people who work at riding and enjoy their motorcycles.

I was thinking the same thing... Unless you want to show a cool crash like the guy who tries the flip in midair and misses the landing box (that video just makes me laugh) leave the regular crashes to yourself.

If you really get off on the death stuff go here http://www.findadeath.com/

And please don't go PC. If you feel like saying, "sushi bike"...by all means say it. Who cares?

Anybody ever hear of "Yoshi's Jazz Club"? Some of the best sushi around and a white hot spot for jazz at night. Jack London Square on Oakland.

Thank you Bill, we are getting more & more of these posts..why I have no idea except it seems a lot of them are from the newbies to the board.

How about writing about an actual ride you went on, or a trip you are planning & knock off all the accident reporting, this isnt your local ABC news.

The only thing I worry about in all of this is the fact that even though it's been going on for sometime now, how long will it be before we start getting some serious legislation brought down on us. How long until we get our sport taken away from us because of to many wrecks?

I would be all for legislation (did I just say that???) if it were the right kind. Policies that would limit engine size/power for new riders is where I would start.
