Hey! Going to Roanoke for a long weekend of riding with my best friend. He just got his license and his bike and I wanted to be there with him while he is learning to ride. We've talked about riding together for years, and we finally get to! Too cool. Anyway-he lives in Roanoke so I'm wondering if any of ya'll know any good roads in the area-I know there is the parkway but wanted to ask if there are any other good roads I should look for? mmm...love a road trip! Can't wait to leave! thanks guys, Nick |

The road off the Parkway up to Star Mountain (one lane, one way up and one way down) above Roanoke would probably be pretty cool on a bike. (Haven't driven it in about 20 years and never been on it on a bike.) BTW, I see you're an ME. You should definitely stop by the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke and see two of the finest examples of mechanical engineering ever built, N&W steam locomotives no. 611 and 1218, as well as a bunch of other cool locomotives. Roanoke was the location of the main shops for the Norfolk & Western Railway (now Norfolk Southern) and they built many of their own steam locomotives right there. A cool place to visit for any gear-head. |

Ahh sounds cool Whodom! My bud Jason I'm visiting is also an ME, so we'll probably both enjoy seeing that. I've been to Roanoke a couple of times, and from what I can remember pretty much all the roads out there around the mountains are some bad mamba-jambas! My buddy is more into cruisers but I think that once he sees the Buell in action he will come out into the light! Oh and I just gotta say-the freaking SOB takes the Blue Ridge Parkway in to work every day. I hate his GUTS!!! later, Nick |
