Found this story on Pashnit.com. Thought it summed up the feelings many of us get when we just go out and ride. Be it in the corners or just in the straights. This certainly is how I felt on my short 320 miles trip today. http://www.pashnit.com/8days/8days1.htm |

I must be a real wuss, after 4-500 miles I'm beat and ready to find a bed or a barstool. I can't imagine doing 1,000 miles in one day. No wonder they call 'em iron butts! Rob (who's longest day thus far has been 600 miles) |

I did 1000mi days in the past and its brutal. Won't do anymore as its dangerous especially near the end. |

i disagree about the dangerous aspect. one must develop a sense of self awareness, and the ability to assess ones level of mental acuity, on a continuing basis. if travelling with a companion, you must also allow for that persons span of attention. it is actually helpful to ride a machine with limited fuel capacity, as with the buell and sportster, you are guaranteed at least a short fuel break every couple hours. i made use of several short ( 15 or 20 minute) catnaps on my 22 hour marathon. typical scenario would be a fuel stop after 150 miles, slam a cold ice tea, munch a clif bar, lay down on pavement, helmet and gloves ON, close eyes for 15 minutes, car pulls up, or kid walks up "hey mister, you OK?" "yeah thanks guy, just restin", and off you go down the road. |

He should do that on a buell some time. I'm working on my shape because I want to do some long distance rides in the future. I think that is basically the limiting factor. Sure ergonomics help, but if your shape is bad even a ... uh ... Gold Wing (gulp) will be uncomfortable in 300 miles. |

Read the whole thing...I am planning on riding from Connecticut (where I am currently stationed) to Sacramento when I get out of the military in a couple of years. |
