My buddy wants to buy an Aprilia, but I am trying to persuade him to buy a Buell...I tell him all about the torque and the awesome sound...I've never ridden an Aprilia, so I can't tell him anything about those...anyone have some input??? | ||

They are awesome bikes. Demo rides with each brand will let him know which one "clicks" with him. If he rides both and still likes the Aprilias Better, tell him that he will learn the meaning of the word patience if he ever needs replacement parts for it. I don't know if ApriliaUSA has fixed this problem yet, but this was an issue before they got bought out by Piaggio last year. | ||

Lol, a guy here got an Aprilia. Not even a year old and he's managed to get the front plug wire to rub through. Now he's got to order new wires. He tells us he's in for a bit of a wait. | ||

I have heard similar things about Ducati, but I wasn't sure if it applied to Aprilia too. I have also heard that it is difficult to find someone who truly knows how to work on a Duc. | ||

Cat -- he can't/won't make his own wire? ez to do, no down time, stuff available at most every NAPA on the planet . . .. . all the italian scoots go through parts droughts -- some just last longer than others -- the do make very passionate, wonderful motorcycles, though | ||

The aprila Mille is the only bike, I've ever ridden where it is absolutey effortless to get the front wheel off the ground. Very nice bikes.Super Smooth, great handling,my only beef is that it felt like a really high center of gravity.Not top heavy but a very different feeling. I know the dealer that I've been to before will let you test ride Aprilia's. That's what he needs to do. I don't generally recommend Motorcycles to friends because everybody's tastes are so different, I'm sure everybody has recommended a movie,resteraunt,etc.. just to have the person come back and say it sucked. He needs to ride both bikes and draw his own conclusion. | ||

Da Tuono. Oh Mama! The most effortless bike I have ever ridden. They both have spirit but the Buell is a ground up bike not a stripped version of the Mille. In Denver, the parts and service are good for the Aprilia. Everyone is different. Effortless wasn't everything in my decision. The Buell was everything. It just fit and I knew it from just sitting on it. | ||

The two Buellers in our group that have bought Tuonos both love them- and I drool a little when I see those bikes. Of course taste is everything but you are going to have a hard time coming up with real facts to try and talk him out of an Aprilia, especially if he likes them. | ||

Let him buy the Buell, but just make sure he never gets on an Aprilia afterward if you want to retain your friendship:-). The Big Tuna is everything the Buell promises to be and more: it has a modern motor, much faster, more comfortable, handles just about as well, better built and finished. | ||

Howdy 2002m2...I posted last Sat but screwed up my account and lost long winded dissertation.....I'll try again.....First off,The Touno is an Incredible bike!Handles well,tears streaming down your face fast(and quick!)and Great Looking too!I really enjoy this monster and I know Scott does too.Your buddy wouldn't be dissapointed.HOWEVER.....it does have some faults and they wouldn't be so glaring if I didn't have first hand experience.The drivetrain backlash caused by chain slop is unnerving.Erik has truly spoiled us BIGTIME with modern "Belt Technology" and this smoothness of drivetrain is big on my list.The Aprilia is "Tall" and this makes corner transitions more dramatic and slower and parts are still sent on a rowboat from Italy(might be some of my dealers fault too).I have had a few small problems,like turn signal switches that break and supposedly the headlight plastic warps if you run high beams allways(I do).They have an innate ability to wheelie anywhere with little notice so you have to be on your toes when riding spiritedly.I once powered out of a chicane on Glendora Ridge road(the one in the Buell DVD)and I didn't know the wheel was in the air for some 2 gears and some 600 to 800 feet.Till it touched down upon turn in.When switching from Tuono to X1 I instantly feel far more in control,smoother and more confident and can ride closer to my skill level.I can easily drag a knee when I choose and keep a better line without a lot of ado.My S3 X1 and my old XB9S are a different style bike.they are more forgiving,make me a better rider and make me "look" like an even better rider with their abundance of torque and incredible handling.If I was to recommend anything to your friend I would say if this is his first "serious bike,onlly bike or a bike he want's to excell his skills on definetly buy the Buell.Any Buell.They're all great.If he has owned a lot of Japanese bikes and has ridden a lot on tracks and has Some NEED to go faster than 140 MPH buy the Tuono.....then buy the Buell....The Buell will be ridden more often though...it's just that kinda bike.Good luck! | ||

2002m2...I agree with Ebear. I love my Tuono. However, it is not a "first" bike for anyone. I am still getting comfortable with it's handling and speed...wicked speed. Ebear is a better rider than most of us, so he speaks from years of experience that I don't have. I wanted a "situp" bike and the XB's just don't fit me...so, I found the Tuono to be a good replacement for my Buell. I didn't need to get rid of the Buell, I just get bored with bikes and trucks around every four years! However, when I rode both, the old S3 just felt light years behind the Tuono in technology and application. The Tuono is a lot of bike for maybe a grand more than the Buell. Scott | ||
