Okay guys, don't jump on me. I have an XB9S. I asked a question regarding my 1200S Sporty on the XB Board, but did not get a response. I think you guys are probably more attune to carbs and such...Anyway below is what I wrote about the Sporty. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks...Cyko Bob (Quad Cam Fan) One night I was running the Sporty against a tube frame Buell (1st mistake). With the RPMs at redline it kind of coughed once then went on...I shifted about that point. I thought I had just hit the rev limit. However, I noticed it began to spit back more when it was started cold (yes, I let it warm up before I start moving), plus now, when I first drive it on the street and crank it on, it begins to kind of cut-out. Before, it cranked up good...no spitting before it got warm, plus I never had it cut-out on me when I twisted the throttle. As it gets warmer, and I am talking about running it so it is really hot/warm, it seems to run better, but does not seem to have the edge it did before the cough when I ran the Buell. I have the usual Sportster mods...K&N, rejetted, and a Thunderheader. Otherwise stock. Anyway, I am thinking I either have a coil that went bad on me at the high RPM (the S has two coils), or maybe the seal on the intake (between the carb and the manifold) is now leaking. Someone else has suggested grit in the carburetor/one of the jets. I was getting ready to come over here (I am overseas now), so I never got into really solving the mystery before I left. Again, it ran great until it coughed on me that once at high RPM, then it started acting up. Any ideas out there? |

You aren't running a forcewinder are you? They need a groove machined out to be a bowl to work right. |

Check plugs to see if you got a nice piece of carbon in one from your high speed blowout. |

Reepicheep...no, I am not running a Forcewinder. I have the Screamin' Eagle K&N filter... Firemanjim...I was not able to pull the plugs before I left, but the S model has two plugs per cylinder, so I don't think it is the plugs. However, I am going to pull them when I get back to determine the spark condition...if one (or two...two per cylinder) is more sooty than the other cylinder. I am thinking if that is the case I have a coil problem. Hmmm, what if both cylinders are sooty? I am thinking if both cylinders/plugs look good I have a carb problem. Do y'all think I am on the right track? Any other thoughts? Thanks guys... |
