My winterization is almost complete. Good gear and a Givi windscreen keep everything but my legs warm. Will S2 Lower fairings fit an S1W with little modification? The fairings in question are the symmetrical ones (Rt side goes to tank like the left side, not bottom of airbox) and I assume these are S2 fairings, not S3. Perhaps a better question to ask is, are these fairing sufficiently functional? Thanks ladies and gents-- | ||

I guess my first question is....WHY? It seems to defeat the purpose of the S1W. That being said...if they mount up to the frame, they should fit. I don't think you'll get a "clean" look because of the difference in tank shapes. There may also be a problem getting around the aircleaner. I'd be very interested in seeing the final results. I removed and sold my S3T fairings because I didn't notice a real difference in ride comfort. The only body modification that really made a difference for me with the 3" raised Zero Gravity windscreen. Good luck! | ||

I understand the "why" question. Unfortunately, the S1W's purpose doesn't mix well with winter...hehe. To me, a naked bike is a purified example of function over form, not just a "naked" bike. The fairings wouldn't go on for looks. Their purpose would be to winterize my bike and keep the wind off the rest of me til spring... <smile> No Parked Motorcycle Syndrome for me! I encounter enough PMS at home...I'm trying to prevent a two-front war... <smile> | ||

Heck we ain't got no winter to speak of here! Last week was brutal though when it got down to the teens. Now it's almost 60, gotta love Atlanta winters! I understand why you want leg protection though. I've been able to live without it the past three winters. Two winters on the Bandit, one on the XB, this will be the second winter on the XB. You'll probably be better off getting some chaps, rather than modding the S1. IMHO of course. | ||

Woo-- no kidding about the weather... today was great! I rode to work and I think I made Hulley (new member in XBoard) jealous! We work together- I feel partially responsible for his Buell fever... <smile>. It is odd though- The S1 design fits me like a glove, but I have this urge to put some plastic on it... WTF, right? I guess I'm searching for this whistling, zen-like slipstream to envelop myself in as I cut my laptimes on I-285 down... Chaps eh? Uhh... ermmm... I.... Because..... Anyone have any fairings for sale? I'll take em off if they cover too much I promise! hehe- I have this vision.... I want to be able to make a modular body setup for the bike. In the summer/50+ deg weather, stock trim! Any cooler, I can swap to some plastic that will shield me better. That way, I have a bike that takes me where I want to go, anytime, anywhere. Kinda of the way I fell about my S2/T...Saddlebags thick, thin or none... Lower fairings if necessay... | ||

I just happen to have a pair of S2 lowers that have never been painted or on a bike - they are still the amber colored raw 'glass. They will NOT fit around my turbo header on my RS on the right side. I do not know what their value is, but could likely be convinced to part with them for some fair cash remuneration amount. Let me know if there is any interest, also I could put up some photos if I can figure out how on this iMac I'm now using! I will likely put them in classified if you don't need them. AL |
