Anyone ever come up with an easy way to get the cap/plug out of the oil tank? I try to check mine pretty regularly, and I hate trying to dig that thing out of there. I thought about trying to make a metal ring that would fit around just under the head with a ring for a finger, so I'd have something to pull on, just something to make life a little easier.

Oh, for some reason I was thinking of the drain plug for the hose. Duh on me! LOL

I think Lowbrow makes one with some knurling around the edge.

ah, good tip. I see one on there for $16 that doesn't look bad. It'd need drilled so I could put a dipstick in it but that's easy enough. I hadn't thought about it being a stock sportster part. I'll have to measure mine to see exactly what size it is and look around online.

On my 96' Lightening, I bought a threaded one. I have NO idea who made it!!

All Aluminum, and I believe I had to Epoxy a threaded sleeve into the fill hole, after a good cleaning. Let dry....

Then screw the cap on!! GREAT improvement.

But it seemed to have "fine" threads. Kept them greased up, and always made sure it was screwing on straight....as it would have sucked to start cross threading it, especially with Aluminum!! And it never leaked either.....

The aluminum one was I believe a Banke unit, I installed one in my S3 as well it has worked well.

That part looks awesome Ralph! is it just a press fit into the oil tank? and doesn't look like it comes with a dipstick, you just have something else you use to check it?

If I had to guess....and it is just a guess....

Possibly those "cut outs" at the bottom ARE your dipstick, with an upper and lower level? As long as oil is seen inside the cut outs, you are good to go?
