Hello All, It's how it sounds; I put the stock exhaust back on for a ride, and it all came apart at some point. The rear 2 bolts must have come loose first, as I noticed the muffler hit a speed bump, and when I looked a few miles later, the exhaust was hanging/floating there. The front bolt had almost worn through, although I managed to get a strap and get home. I no longer have a single bolt/ nut /spacer for the stock exhaust. missing 1 front and 2 rear with spacer. I really want a new OEM spacer for the newer Y-Bracket, some guys made their own here - http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/815924.html?1507130367 But I want OEM not to have to worry about this happening again. I'm also concerned about what happened, and it looked like the exhaust bolts wore through. My previous exhaust snapped, so I kept this one a little looser. I have been a little swamped looking at alot of old posts, with diy brackets, force exhausts etc.Is there anything that became the go to fix? Thanks Staps2 |

While I don't have the specific answer to your question... as the person who made the post you linked to, I can tell you that 5 years later my homemade spacer and rear exhaust mount are still holding up perfectly fine. I had ended up just using a steel tube for the front spacer, and some 1/8" steel bar that I cut, drilled and painted for the rear mounts. I tried a Z-mount on the rear but for some reason it just would not line up with my exhaust and the engine, so I just made the other ones. The one thing I was never able to figure out, and maybe the newer exhausts had different shaped tabs on them... but with the newer style Y mount, the gap between the two sides doesn't seem to be wide enough and it hits the angled part of the tabs on the exhaust, so I never felt like it really clamped well on the tab how it should, if that makes sense. That's nothing to do with the spacer though. |
