...it's been forever since I had a bone stock motorcycle...lol...

My new-to-me, 7200-mile 96 S2T has my old carb on it (from my totaled thunderstormed S2), which I had running great and jetted 45/185 and 2.5 turns out.

On the bone-stock bike (including muffler; the ONLY change is a Buell race ignition box) I was getting a big bog at cruise throttle, around 3100-3200rpm.

I stepped the main down to a 180 last night and at WOT it seems to run fine...but I'm wondering if it doesn't want a 42 slow jet instead of the 45? I'm leaning (no pun) that direction because it seems to come alive as soon as I get into the throttle (and onto the main jet)...

- Stock motor
- stock cams
- stock exhaust
- stock S2 intake (carbon fiber oval)
- stock CV carb with thunderslide kit
- stock gearing/sprockets

Any thoughts from the collective?

No experience with an S1, but since no one else has responded in the past 2 days, I'll mention that when I got my S1 it was horrible at cruising around 2500-3000rpms, right in that window where I'd always be sitting when I was just riding in normal traffic. I messed with the jets a little but the thing that ended up fixing it was 2 washers under the needle.

i'd shim the needle, based on the bog in that range...on my tubers the 45 slow jet is the first thing I do (if it hasn't been down already).

yeah, I did it for Roy (the guy I bought it from) 10 years ago when I serviced it. Only did a short shakedown ride then, though, and it had a supertrapp cone on it at the time so it may have been fine. I swapped the stock muffler back on, though, and the more I ride...the more I notice the flat spot.

Now I just need to find shims/washers...

I think I just used some thin brass ones I found at lowes/home depot. #4s maybe? I can't remember for sure.
