You can see oil I ask help to find seals for this fork on my 98 S1W Actually the old owner said that he paid his "trusted mechanic" to perform a total reseal of the forks. It seems it's not a good work. Probably he filled too much? I can't find info on real differences (if any) with others S1's with WP. I measured and they are 41mm and 54mm , and they have separate Rebound and compression (left and right). Parts catalog for S1 1998 says they are the same. But I can't find some correct part number (just to be sure). |

I have used K&S Technologies seals with great success on my two S1WLs 16-1040 got them from evilbay with no problems. Common seals that fit KTM & Aprilia etc https://www.ebay.com/itm/394267404345?chn=ps&mkevt =1&mkcid=28 |

2003xb9r, thanks this is the info I was searching: interchangeability. So every 41mm x 53mm x 10.5mm should be OK? Now I have performed a cleaning of the seal using the trick of the 35mm film. I'll test and I'll report here if it worked. |

Good News! I have used the 35mm film under the lips of the seal. I removed some dirty. I made this for 3 or 4 times always compressing/shaking the front every times. And I have (for now) 0 leaks even after a test trip with usual braking (even one very hard for a car crossing the intersection ) |

Thanks for posting what you did to fix. You can check the fork oil level by pulling the cap and using a welding rod to measure from the top of the fluid. Use the service manual for guidance. Good work! |

Glad the 35mm film trick worked for you. I used to have to do that to one of my bikes regularly. As far as the S1 fork seals if you do need some in the future. like 2003xb9r said there's a lot of crossover from KTMs with the WP forks. When I rebuilt mind I pulled out the current seals, measured them, and just searched for new seals based on those measurements. Ended up with seals that were meant for a KTM and haven't had a leak since. |

also, it looks like you've got some oil splatter on your front rim. Make sure you check your tire and clean it well since it's likely made it's way onto the rubber too. |

Two_Season. I'd like to see the level, but unfortunately it needs to dismantle the whole fork. Even the FSM is not clear. There is only "how to fill" (after have it drained) I have a theory. The seal has been changed for real by the "trusted experienced mechanic", but I think he filled too much. The right leg works in compression and I lost all the surplus. I'm monitoring the situation and I can say that now it's perfect. |

Upthemaiden, thanks. about Crossreferences I understand it reading some old messages (many of these were yours). About oil on rims .... YES, I was riding always with a rag in a pocket to clean the droplets when stopped. I was so afraid for some oil on the tire also. |
