Howdy BWers! Just recently purchased a beautiful yellow 99 M2 and am trying to get her dialed in for my tastes. One of the first things I need to do is get a proper exhaust system for her. Currently she has the stock muffler and is a bit too quiet for my tastes. I have found it much more difficult to find exhaust systems for the tube frames these days, and I fear it will only become even more difficult as time goes on. The only 3 options I have found so far is:

1) Supertrapp IDS is still available for around $600

2) I found this GPR system and a little intrigued, but I am worried it is for a 2" collector and won't work with my 2.5". Anybody with any experience with these?

Jeez that is a huge link, sorry.

3) I know a local fellow BWer which has a White Bros. E series exhaust for a 2" collector. He has offered to sell this system with an over the frame header with 2" collector so I can run the E series on my bike.

Any advice? Which would you pick and why? Any available systems which I may not be aware of? Does anyone have a nice system not being used they are willing to part with? I live in North Bay California. I am after nice deep sound, great torque, and not too loud (no Force or D&D). Thanks in advance!

-Jon.

The trapp is a good choice.

Though with the m2 cams, the stock exhaust is perfect.

Always rejet when you change mufflers.

45/180 generally works for me with stock heads/cams. 48/180 on my S1W with full race exhaust.

Since you can tune the 'trapp, you will need some trial and error, and plug-reading, once you decide on how many discs you're going to run.

Boy, I wish I had the stock muffler on my M2, I bought it with a Borla, Looked great But it killed my hearing.... If I could have found a used stock muffler, I would have kept the bike..

"Looked great But it killed my hearing...."

Isn't that the truth, my ear(both hearing and dizziness) problems started exactly when I started riding my S1(V&H). Looked much better and definitely sounded better, but man have I paid for that fun haha. Stock exhaust and ear plugs for me from now on. The bike is no where near as satisfying without that rumble, but I still haven't been able to let it go.

Got the SuperTrapp IDS installed with 20 disks and it is still very quiet - does not hurt my hearing at all, and yes I wear earplugs. Still a little quiet for my taste, but much much better than stock. Nice compromise between stock, can't even hear what the engine is doing, and that loud deafening bark of a D&D muffled bike I once owned. I think I am going to need to rejett, as it does pop thru the intake a bit more when it is cold. Now I need a Mikuni HSR and I'll be happy.

Good to know there's a nice option that sounds better than stock but isn't horribly loud. I'd like to do some top end work on this bike someday and felt like it'd be a little counter productive if I was going to leave the stock exhaust on.

When you say you can't hear what the engine is doing, do you mean you can't hear the mechanical engine noises over the exhaust sound, or you can't really hear the exhaust over the wind/helmet noise when you're riding?

Upthemaiden - Meant to say I can't hear the stock exhaust note clearly over the wind/helmet noise. I think the SuperTrapp is just about perfect! Of course, it will probably get a little more pronounced over time, but honestly I don't think that will be a problem.

Looks like they only make the Buell specific one for the 2.5" bikes. I know they do make universal fit exhausts with a 2" inlet that would work. Looks like they're a different style though, don't have the nicer looking endcap. I'm guessing your adjustable plated are all internal. Wonder what makes the X1 cost 3 times as much as the universal one.

Yes mine has an angled endcap with 4" internal disks. Mine was $600. I see universal mufflers for $260, and I would have liked to go that route, but didn't know where I could get the Buell specific 2.5" elbow and the angled band clamps for the rear. Guess I could have gone to an exhaust shop, but I am pretty happy with what I got so far.

Let’s see a pict of your new piece of bike jewelry/noise maker!

Recently picked up an S3 with a pro series system on it.. but missing the proper header to muffler can inlet.. has a couple of ring and worm clamps on it now… anyone have a front clamp laying around?
