Good day all. I have a dual fire Dyna 2000 ignition controller with a 7 pin connector. I want to remove the 7 pin connector and fit the later 8 pin connector as used on Buell S1 or M2. Problem is, the wiring colors on the Dyna 2000 controller are different than those shown in the S1 shop manual. Only the pink and black wires are the same. The other five wires are different colors. Does anyone know the correct color to pin number for a Dyna 2000 ignition controller with 8 pin connector? Thanks. |

Here's my first attempt at working out the 7 pins of the Dyna 2000 module to the Buell 8 pin Deutsch connector. Comments welcomed please - https://i.ibb.co/tqTsPpk/WIRING-OF-DYNA-2000-TO-8- PIN-DEUTSCH-CONNECTOR.jpg |

There used to be adapters sold by Dyna to do this, think I had to go both ways on different bikes--- |

Thanks Fmj, indeed there still is. Unfortunately, in the UK the adapter costs nearly as much as I paid for the Dynatek ignition unit, unused but pre-owned. Furthermore, I truly don't want 2x the connectors which doubles the chances of future electrical problems with it. I already have the correct Deutsch connector and crimp terminals. I just have to be 100% confident in the pin out. Then I will cut the 7 pin plug off and fit the 8 pin plug. Your input is greatly appreciated, thanks. Yeah, and if I remember right nothing changed with how the pins were oriented/positioned between the seven and eight. I only did it once and it was over 15 years ago sooo…but worth a look |

Thank you Stonemaster. I will take another look but I am 90% sure the 7 pin Canon connector is moulded around the pins and cannot be removed without cutting it off. I will take another look though. |

Thank you Ceejay. I guessed the pin numbers/colors would be the same between the Canon and the Deutsch connectors. But presently, I can see no way to open the 7 pin Canon connector to confirm that. The pin numbers/colors are not published anywhere that I can find. I asked Dynatek, who to be fair, did reply. But they told me to buy their adaptor which is not the outcome I want. Before I cut off the 7 pin Canon connector I will look again to see if I can open it. Thanks again. |

In the UK the adapter is around £70 plus posting (approx $100). Which is about what I bought the ignition unit for, boxed unused, pre-owned. Any case, I don't want to use the adapter, it's just adding connections for no good purpose. I already have the correct 8 pin Deutsch plug. I only need to be confident in the pin/color of the Dynatek unit. Thanks. |

Hi 651lance, no that's the 7 pin to 8 pin adapter cable. I don't want to use that. Please refer to the second post in this thread where I posted a link to a pdf schedule of pin/wire color. I am taking a 7 pin connector off the Dynatek unit and replacing it with the 8 pin connector. I only need to be confident about the pin/color of the Dyna 2000 unit because that information is not published anywhere. If you happen to know the correct pin/wire colors of the Dyna 2000 ignition unit, kindly take a look at my schematic linked to above. I "think" my schematic is correct. But nobody so far has been able to confirm it for me. Thanks and regards. CB |

Not published anywhere? 30 seconds on the old google machine I found the install manual for the Dyna 2000i which has directions for each wire and diagrams for each way of wiring it up. It appears the list you have is correct. As far as the factory colors on your list, open your shop manual and verify on the wire schematic page. http://https://www.wwag.com/step/pdf/123271.pdf |

Thank you for your comments _buelligan_ that document you linked to can be found a million places on the internet. It seems to me that it's for wiring the Dynatek nose cone ignition module. It is not for the 7 pin or 8 pin ignition module. That document doesn't show pin number/wire color of the Dynatek ignition boxes for either 7 or 8 pin versions. I do have the equivalent version of the document for the Dynatek 2000 igniton box. It comes in the box with the ignition module. It gives a text description of wire color/function. I used that document and the factory S1 manual to derive the simple at a glance pin out schematic above. Like I originally said, the pin/color schematic I made for 7 pin or 8 pin module doesn't appear in any Google searches. It seems to be unpublished until I made one. Anyway, it's now there for the world to use for better or worse. Thank you for taking the time to post. |

Sorry about that, they typically use the same wire colors between the different modules and Harley typically also keeps wire colors the same through out the years as well, as you can see from your schematic the harley colors closely match up to the dynatek wires minus the white/black tracers which is also typical in the aftermarket world and probably cost effective as solid color wires are easier to source and probably would be cheaper for the manufacturer to buy in bulk and only need a few inches at a time but here is the service manual wire harness for a 1993 sportster that uses that 7 pin harness. Gives the color, where is goes and the pin location.

Thank you _buelligan_, that's terrific. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to do that for me and the community. Regards. CB |
