Here is Vancouver B.C. We seem to have the police wanting to write us a ticket to get your vehicle inspected. They don’t like the way your bike looks or your attitude, they give you a V.I. And you have to pay about $250 to a certified inspection shop to prove the bike is roadworthy. I have a slightly loud Buell Pro pipe slip-on and wanted to try to quiet it down a bit when I went into the cite where a lot of these VI tickets are issued. Has anyone else tried to quiet there bike down like this? |

I would think if you can weld you could try to modify your exhaust to do something similar to what the XB12 exhaust does. My old supermoto had an exhaust with a removable baffle that I could keep in my bag and just pop into the exhaust if I wanted to be quieter somewhere. That was convenient. Downside was a very noticeable drop in power, but if it's for when you're heading into the city, you probably don't need all the power then anyway. For what it's worth, I bought my bike with a V&H and switched to a stock exhaust so it wasn't as loud. It's still loud. These bikes just seem significantly louder than other bikes out there with the stock exhaust on them. |

Back in the 70's, The most popular exhaust systems were the "4 into 1" Megaphone pipes. You could take out the baffle out on those, and could hear it screaming at wide open from 5 miles away! LOUD!! But when it Town, I just "hooked" my right foot over the end of it...to muffle it enough to get by...... Damn!! I miss those days!! |

Rode the bike with the butterfly closed and then went to turn it open and noticed the round washer had broken off. The force from the exhaust proved too much for the restriction or the weld was not good. I will have another welded on and try it again. |

With it only welded on one side there's a good bit of leverage it has to deal with. If you welded another stud on the other side it would probably hold up a lot longer. |

Stock muffler? No thanks. I have a race ECM tuned for my pro series muffler. I like the sound. It’s just the police in the downtown core that don’t like it.

I'm typically a fan of quiet bikes, but a Buell is one bike that I really think pairs well with an aftermarket exhaust. They don't exactly have the HP to spare, and the quirkiness of a sportbike that sounds like a harley is definitely part of the fun. My S1 had a noticeable drop in power when I switched back to stock, and that was with a V&H and matching jets. I'm sure the pro series exhaust and race ECM make even more of a difference. |

If it's a pro-series exhaust, you can tune it with discs inside the end cap. More discs = more noise; fewer discs = less noise. Standard supertrapp discs work; the Pro-Series mufflers were made by Supertrapp. If it's a race muffler, you can (and should, on a regular basis) remove the end cap and baffle, and re-pack around the baffle with either fiberglass, or I use steel wool in mine. |

I have a rare "baffled" version of the force exhaust. Repack it every year with the Moose packing kit. Still loud, but not as shrill when it's freshly packed. I live in an area with lots of small towns with "enforced" noise ordinances, always stay off the throttle and short shift when I am in their city limits. I imagine our friends up north are a little more strict than our townies. The S2 restore I am doing has a stock exhaust on a rebuilt bone stock motor. Rat and Zombie….I only want to quiet the bike down when I go into the downtown to avoid the noise police, not to quiet the muffler all the time. I love the Vtwin rumble.
