I've been running the longer oil filter used on the Twin Cam big twins. It increases the oil capacity to a full 3 quarts and I assume the filter area as well. The guy at the dealer parts counter says this this is a common practice on Sportsters, but I've never seen anyone else using it, Sportster or tube-frame Buell. Does anyone else use this filter? Do any of you pundits think there might be downside? |

Dan, I have run this same filter on my 2002 M2 since I got it last year with no apparent problems. I also put a stainless steel clamp on it and safety wire it to the frame to keep it from unscrewing. It also sticks out in the airstream a little more for additional cooling. Price is right and available better. Harley only shop close and Buell/HD 40 miles away. |

The Dyna Glide originally came out with the longer filter in the early 90's for increased oil capacity I have been running one on my S2 for over 50k miles, for the same reason. I run the K&N oil filter it has a built in safety wire tie hole in the wrench hex on the end. |

I've run the longer "Dyna" filter on all 3 of my tubers, no problems. But didn't I read somewhere that the twin-cam filters have a finer mesh than the older filters, and can cause some sort of oil circulation issues when run on evo motors? rt |

Add me to the list of long time Dyna filter users , also using my own version of a security device to prevent "issues" with filter loosening.

I've been using Quaker State filters for a few years, now. Longer and larger than HD filters. Increased oil capacity. Available anywhere. Cheap (like me). QS2870A Lornce |

I've use Dyna filters on my M2 since day one. S2 also uses them now. Hoser, Do you have a clamp number you use fot the safety device? I posted about it earlier this fall, I had one come loose after 1800 miles or so. What a friggin mess!! I was VERY lucky I didn't go down. Brad |

I used the Dyna filter until I switched to a Scotts re-usable wire mesh filter. It has a nice finned aluminum body for cooling, and my fluid capacity is already augmented by an oil cooler. I like to see the grungies. |

FL1A, I think their about $3.00 at AutoZone, work great. K&N upgrade with tiedown points are $9.00. 10,000+ and no issues -- give her another 1/4 twist and she won't come loss. |
