Guess I'm the only one running a Handy, then? |

I've had a Handy lift since 1993. |

I've got a regular height half ton, and it's fine to load a bike into if it's running so I can fan the clutch to let it walk itself up the ramp. A step doesn't hurt either so it's easier to get into the bed while you're balancing the bike. I'd need some help if I ever tried to get a non-running bike in there. I can't imagine ever doing it in a lifted truck. You wouldn't even be able to use a normal ramp without the bottom of the bike scraping at the top. I'd assume some longer tailgate cables would drop it down to an angle, which would make it a little easier, but still. |

...which is why I use a tilt flatbed trailer with my truck instead. |

A trailer would be convenient, but my garage is already a mess, and we're already in a constant game of shifting cars in the driveway now that my daughter is driving. Last thing I need is one more big thing to store somewhere. If I was gonna be moving a bike that's not running I'd do best to just rent a trailer from Uhaul for a few hours. |

Been there, done that, with the trailer thing. Add on the storage space I don't have, the maintenance I don't want, the registration I don't need, and the 55mph limit with the lane restrictions, I'm happy enough to have a low bed height on my daily driver. 10 ears ago trucks were still reasonable, but lately they are just getting unnecessarily bigger? Not everyone who wants a truck has a small pee pee. |

Haha I hear you. I used to have a Tacoma and I loved it, but around the time my daughter turned 10 she quit fitting in the back of the access cab. I looked at double cabs but we were planning more kids and I was still hesitant about the size of that back seat. I ended up with a Tundra and have 2 car seats in the back, but once kids aren't a factor I'm really looking forward to downsizing again. I keep a ReadyRamp in the back so it's good to go any time I need it, plus it doubles as a bed extender or flips in to keep stuff right by the tailgate. Highly recommended if you're ever looking for a ramp or bed extender. |

I built my own using an $80 air over hydraulic ram and steel I had already. If anyone is interested I do have the plans for it. I did later build my own wheel clamp that is made out of a bar clamp.

That lift looks really stout! Enough square tube, a bit of engineering, and welding skill you can build anything! Oooh tell more about that build, xb swing arm and wheel on a tube frame! Looking good! |

Just ordered a new Handy S.A.M. 1200 Air Lift for the new shop at the new house.
Will add a condor style stop chock like my old lift. Pretty excited about it! (Message edited by kc_zombie on August 20, 2020) |

Do you guys ever find the bolt on chocks to be in the way? I'm sure for normal maintenance they're great, but they seem like they'd make it a pretty big pain to remove your front wheels. Depending on the width, I'm sure you could roll our bike in backwards, but if you wanted to pull both wheels you'd be stuck. |

I roll mine on backwards and use my Lockhart Phillips front and rear stands. You can only work on one wheel at a time anyway, right? Also, the cycle vise is only held on by a few bolts...easy enough to remove with an air ratchet if it's in the way. |

I have the Handy lift, with a chock, and a rear wheel dropout. I also have a flat jack for use on the lift, as well as a pair of Pit Bulls. If I pull BOTH wheels? I use the pit bulls. If I'm pulling ONE, I use the lift - forward, or backwards. No big deal. Very little work requires BOTH wheels to be off at the same time. |

For loading my truck (2001 Ram 2500), I have a nice folding aluminum ramp for the bike...and a pair of 2x6s joined with straps, for my feet. Place the 2x6s with the straps stretched tight, they're about 3' apart. Ramp goes in the middle. Bike gets ridden up the ramp, and the boards are there for my feet if I have to put feet down. Same for unloading - duck-walk backwards down the boards, seated on the bike, with a hand on the front brake. If the bike doesn't run, I back into a ditch, or up against a berm, so the ramp is more level. If I don't have a friend to help, I've actually used first gear, and the starter, to get a bike up a ramp before. Not the best for the battery, but... |

Came across probably the best thought out lift yet and its under 1000 outta anaheim look up the kendon cruiser... holds 1000, air or hyd or both and it folds up,rolls away, store vertical and its just a rail with front and rear drop outs..I use a couple HF's with an attachment i made to do trikes and I am gonna try to twist santas arm for one, if he doesn't get sick.. |

I've seen some ramps similar to the kendon that are basically just wide enough for the tires. They definitely seem convenient for space, but without the option to use a rear stand I feel like you'd lose some options of what you can do. I guess you could fit a mini scissor lift in front of the rear wheel and lift it up by the swingarm mounting block. |

Kendon's website shows them completely sold out, of every model. That's an endorsement itself I guess. Or maybe production or parts supply problems... |

I think stuff is running out both because people are trying to keep busy right now, so they're out buying tools & supplies for projects, and I assume manufactures are having a hard time keeping up with lower staff and materials available. I've had a router in my shopping cart at lowes for over a month now and it's been perpetually out of stock. No lowes or home depot stores anywhere around here have it. I'm assuming they're just getting behind. |

Could any of you guys with the harbor freight lift do me a huge favor? Can you put it in its lowest measurement and tell me the height from the floor to the top of the deck? I need to put the shelf under my workbench and want it high enough to slide the lift under it. Want to make sure I have the clearance since I don't have the lift yet. I dont need the wheel chock or the tie down rings, just to the highest point of the top platform. |

hmm... is there anyone with a tape measure and left that can double check that? I had heard the number before and swore it was close to 8.5 to 9 inches. |

Perfect, I really appreciate that! 6.9" sounded low. I was in harbor freight for something else yesterday, so I grabbed a tape measure and tried to measure the display as best as I could and was getting a similar height. They keep theirs lifted up a foot or so though so I was sitting there trying to measure each individual part and doing the math in my head. That's a big help. |

Glad to help. The structural lip down the length of platform ends up being the obstacle. (Message edited by kc_zombie on September 01, 2020) |

I'm guessing HF wasn't counting that in their measurement, and measured based on where the bike actually sits. Especially considering they definitely weren't adding in the wheel clamp or tie downs. If I would've thought it out better I would've made my bench a tiny bit deeper so the entire lift would've slid under it. Instead I think it'll be sticking out about 2-3", but I have a habit of always making my benches 2' so if I replace the top I can just cut a sheet of plywood right in half to cover the full length. When I made the bench I held off on putting in the lower shelf until I had the lift, but I'm really trying to get my garage cleaned up and want to get that shelf under there so I can get some things off of the floor. |

That sounds like a great idea. That would be perfect for rolling it sideways under a workbench. Did you weld on plates for the new wheels? Any pictures showing the new wheels? |
