Just bought an XL engine with XB heads stage 2 work by NHRS and Axtell 1250 kit cylinders. Ran Axtells back in the day of iron heads and shovels. Has anyone here tried them on the evo style motors? 1998 XL building 1997 S1. |

Yes, used them on a couple of different engines, 3 5/8” and 3 13/16”. We had good results with the cast iron cylinders. In the 90’s, the cast iron cylinders were considered more stable for running really high compression, than the aluminum cylinders of that era. However, I think the aftermarket aluminum cylinders currently available are much better than the ones of 25 years ago. |

Yes, was just getting ready to buy a wheelbarrow full of stuff from Hammer when I ran across this deal. Know of several people running aluminum with steel sleeves and thrashing the snot out of them. Don't personally know any body running Axtell anymore except 88"/90" stuff. One guy I've met briefly is running a 88" set up and seems to be happy with it. Sure spanked me and my M2. |

In the days of Axtell 1250 kits, there were also some Axtell branded NikASil cylinders that were made by a now defunct foundry. You may have those rather than cast irons, if it is a 1250 kit. They were not used on the 88 or 90" kits though; those were all cast iron if Axtell branded. |

Well a magnet sticks to the outside, so I'm pretty sure they weren't the coated ones. Who knows, I may have bought an 88" or a 90". It's an ebay motor out of Tarpon Springs Fl. Used to live in Fl. so had a friend go look at it. He's not a motorcycle guy but mechanically savvy. We'll see.Have a 30 day return window so whatever it is the most I'll be out is shipping from Fl. to AZ., vendor says he'll pay shipping on a return. Never frequented this area of BWB until lately, just classified. This seems to be where the old guys hang out. Wish I had checked it out a long time ago. |

Norm, this is Ross, feel free to shoot me a text if you have any other questions. Indeed those are iron then :P . Axtell did make cast iron 1200 and 1250 kits as well; years ago I had an Axtell 1200 kit with cast iron cylinders and raised lip fo fire ring use instead of a head gasket. |
