Did some more monkeying around with the Thunderbolt today to try to modify/fix the side stand so it doesn't scare the CR*P out of me every time I use it. This bit of cutting, grinding, bending and welding seems to have produced a workable side stand. So far it stays up---doesn't sag of fall down over bumps or due to the bikes vibes. Stays down and forward, lets the bike lean about right and doesn't tend to let the bike "roll off" and fall over, either.

I just put a single cold bend in mine and it works perfectly. No worries letting it idle to warm up on the stand.
