I installed the factory tach kit shortly after I bought my '99 M2. My bike came with S3T bars, which I really like due to the upright seating position. The problem is, the clutch cable gets pinched between the fly screen and the plastic housing...which comes about level to the top edge of the screen. Here's the question; on some of the pix I've seen of the earlier tach kits, they had a billet dash of solid aluminum that appeared to be lower than the plastic thingie...which might give me the clearance I need. I'm also considering adding a couple of gauges. If anyone has the billet dash installed, can you tell me the approximate metal thickness? Also, if anyone has built a custom dash I'd love to see some pix. Thanks! |

The Crossroads / Buell billet dash is 1 cm thick. I have one on my 2001 M2, with the clip-ons, and have no clearance problems. The billet dash requires individual "cups" for the instruments. Let me know if you need pictures or measurements. |

Zen; Thanks! Pix would be nice. I hadn't thought about the cups; thanks for the tip. Are they sold separate? I could just butch up the plastic but I'd rather not. |

The "cover, speedo/tach" is Y0630.K, $10.85 list. The older style rubber gasket with a bump for the billet dash isn't made any longer. The new style (Y0604.01A3, $5.75) are smooth all around, but don't rotate in use as I thought they might. Check my profile for picture of the dash. I took some detail shots with measurements today, so send me an email and I'll get them to you. |

1cm THICK! wow, are you sure? 1/4" (6.4mm) seems more like it. maybe the back is skeletonized? Bomber carved one out of 1/4" aluminum plate for his m2. I've seen it, it's nice. I am in the process of carving one out for my X1. I would like to add a clock to the layout. |

It is very thick. Its a very stout piece. 1cm seems about right. |

Yes - it's 1 cm and pretty beefy. Flat except for the various holes, which have a relief edge (landing?) that's thinner - perhaps half as thick as the main piece. |

Wow- that's pretty thick! I wonder if it really needs to be that thick? Bomber; had any problems with the 1/4"? Actually, Zen, looking at your profile pic, I don't think the billet will solve my clutch cable problem (out of the box, anyway.) There'd still have to be some grinding, I think. I might have to drop the speedo down an inch or so to make room for a cutout. |

Cap -- no troubles at all -- it needed to be that thick around some of the holes (for tach, speedo, idiot lights and such) to use the existing fastening systems (no reason to re-engineer those), buit I'm gonna hog out the areas that do no need to be that thick this winter, just to loose the weight (and to get better with the mill -- ain't it grand when practice is fun and gives ya something cool to play with?) I also had some trouble with routing the clutch cable -- but I move the tach and speedo alot closer to centerline, and that helped alot |

Yeah, I just noticed how much room there is between the two. Thanks! |
