So my Buell died on me months back. Figured out it was the fuel pump. Ordered a new one. Upon getting the old pump out I realized I was in for more of a headache than I thought. The wiring on the housing itself was corroded and ripped off right where it seals the wiring in some sort of plastic material. In a last resort to keep from having to spend $300 on the entire housing I drilled the plastic out and rewired everything. How can't I test the pump now without putting it back in? Can I plug it in and will it turn on dry? Any suggestions? |

Don't run it dry. I know these things need to pump gas to cool and lube themselves. Perhaps a short shot of +12v won't kill it but you should definitely not do a long run. You could probably McGuiver something OUTSIDE with an open container of gas but I don't think you would be able to test the pressure just the flow. I would honestly just put it back together in the tank and see if it works as it should. |
