Back to the original question... I'm not spending $500 on an exhaust on a bike that's only worth $3000 That's one way to look at it. Or, you can buy (5) $100 exhausts, and have to keep swapping/fixing/cursing/getting pissed off at the motorcycle because stuff keeps breaking. Do it right, or do it over. It's like my rental properties - I put real tile in the bathrooms and kitchens. Why, when vinyl is so much cheaper? Because you have to TRY to kill tile; vinyl is easy to tear and damage. And I don't want to be re-vinyling stuff every time I change tenants (or more often than that)...so I pony up and do it right the first time, so I don't have to do it over. Not doing it over (and over) again is, in my book (just like the credit card ad) - priceless. $400 beater Jeep or $3000 Buell, I'd rather do it once and do it right...than do it over. |

Oh man... I’ve been screwing this up from day one!!! I have not been using the bike’s market value to determine what I spend on it to make it “right”.... shoot!! Oh and what is my time worth????? Never call me for investment advise!!! In all honesty, to each of US, these bikes are worth more than they are “worth”, that’s why we love em!! Buy the right part, and make the bike the best that it can be! That exhaust was trash, so much rust that it would blow out sooner rather than later. There are some good guys making good exhaust as pointed out above, Dean Adams Drummer are two that come to mind, and I’ve never had trouble with Borla so if you find one of those used you might consider snagging it if you’re looking for used prices. |

"Or, you can buy (5) $100 exhausts, and have to keep swapping/fixing/cursing/getting pissed off at the motorcycle because stuff keeps breaking. " If someone is breaking exhausts, I agree you're wasting money replacing it with another cheap exhaust. My V&H is still holding up perfectly fine after 20 years, so the only downside to my cheap exhaust is just people say it's a cheap exhaust. Someday when my welding skills are reasonable, I'll just make something nice to replace it. |

If you are "investing" in motorcycles . . . you may be in for a surprise. Motorcycles . . . in the United States of America . . . are for one thing . . . "fun". There are myriad examples of folks willing to share the anecdotal tale of buying one for $3,000 ands selling for $5,000. That is "investing" like eggs are golf balls. If you want to "invest" . . . . look for a deal . . . . They’re aplenty at present. :-) (Message edited by Court on June 29, 2018) |
