I've brought this bike back from the dead with the help of you guys and things were going great for a minute, but here we are again. Since it's been running the only thing I've noticed is when sitting at a stop light sometimes, if I blip the throttle it will sputter and pop/backfire from the exhaust. Not often. That was the only problem I've had until now. And most people I've talked to just shrugged that off add a buell thing. Not sure of that has anything to do with the new symptoms. After the bike warms up it randomly starts missing and cutting out. It continues to idle but barely revs up. Originally thought fuel pump was falling. If I turn it off and let it set for 5 or 10 minutes it's back to normal. Any input greatly appreciated. |

Seems heat related. If you have run some fuel with appropriate additives in it to eliminate the possibility if injector clogs . . . . Given the bikes age, might do to replace the intake seals. Probably a reasonable preventive maintinance (sp?)idea anyway. Do you have ECMspy? Hope this helps, Dave |

Idle doesn't change when spraying intake. Also I suspect voltage regulator may be acting up as I fried a brand new battery in 3 months. Do you think a bad regulator would give symptoms like that? No ecm spy but what looking into a rave ecm after I get the bugs worked out |

ECM Spy will not tell you if your cam position sensor is fried, but random backfiring and occasional random sparks will. Take the cover plate off and give it the sniff test. If it smells like burnt electronics, replace it. |

"After the bike warms up it randomly starts missing and cutting out. It continues to idle but barely revs up. Originally thought fuel pump was falling. If I turn it off and let it set for 5 or 10 minutes it's back to normal." The next time it does this, open the fuel cap. If it operates normally with the cap open, the overflow/vent tube is clogged. It's either pinched somewhere, or an insect has built a home in the end of the tube. |

Vent tube, that's a damn good idea! I'll check first thing tomorrow. |

Took the bike out today for a rip. Took it to a spot where I could really wring is neck and it ran great the whole time. Longest rode I've taken since our started acting up,until I pull into my neighborhood that is. Coughing, sputtering and back firing. Took the cap off, no change. Wiggled plug wires, no change. Started testing regulator and stator and realized the battery is sit ting at 13.6v after the ride. |

Take off the "points plate" cover and when it starts doing that hit the plate with a mist of water and see if cooling the ignition off doesn't cure it. The only other thing I can think of is a coil on the way out. Both of those things can screw up when they get hot. |
