I just picked up a barn find S1W from my sisters barn. It has been sitting for nearly a decade with very little use. It will need the following for sure: tires, shock (recalled) and brake pads. The petcock is also completely filled with gelled gas. May need the following: caliper rebuild kit, carb rebuild kit, WP fork seals, master cylinder rebuild kit, all new fluids, etc. My question is this: where do I start in terms of finding part numbers for all these items? I thought about purchasing a 1998 Buell S1 parts catalog, but does that catalog cover the W variants? If not, is there some place that lists all these part numners? |

What a find. Shame that it sat uncovered/untouched for so long tho. At least you have one now and itll be a labor of love henceforth. Call racetech in Ca., they may not do the wp still but i think they can point you in the right direction. I just had a rear rebuilt from hyper something or other in NY up near the finger lakes. They told me the same thing.ill see if can find out where they said that still may do wp. This place and the people here are awesome and an excellent resource. Everything you ever needed to know is within these pages. Good luck man |

Fyi If its been sitting that long there are sonethings you will want yo do brfore firing it. Maybe someothers will chime in but O know for sure you will want the plugs out with no fuel and slowly crank to get oil moving through the system right noe everything is dry as a bone! |

Fork/dust seals can be found on Ebay for much cheaper. Those forks were used on some KTM bikes as well K&S Technologies Fork Oil Seal & Dust Seal Kit KTM 40mm 50mm 7 / 10.5mm 57K |

Thanks for the assistance. I’ll post up some pics soon. This 98 S1W joins my 99 S3, so I’m no stranger to Buells. I spent the entire day yesterday cleaning, scraping, power washing all the bird poop and grime off the bike.it cleaned up pretty well although there is a lot of corrosion and rust. ‘ I also emptied tank, cleaned petcock and am in the process of cleaning the carbs. The entire bottom of tank, petcock, fuel line and float bowls were caked in a whitish gelled gasoline type sludge. Next project will be the brakes. The rear are rusty and probably locked up. The fronts don’t look that bad. Just got a text from my sister. She found all the documentation on the bike in her basement, along with a new in package molten orange tank. It’s never been used but those damn decals are still bubbled, just like the decals on the tank that’s currently on bike. |

Oh, and someone on the Buell tube frame Facebook site said he’s currently in the process of having Harley replace the recalled shock. I thought the time limit is passed and HD is now able to wash their hands of the Buell situation. |

There is no time limit on safety recalls in the us. As long as the part is available they are obligated to fix it. But if it is an original open spring shock I would keep it personally! |

Sounds like you got lucky. Little blood, sweat and tears and youll have a fine machine. I searched for a long time to find a bike such as yours with no success. Until i went to a local restaurant and found one hanging from the ceiling? Seriously? All that time i spent looking and its right up the road? Of course they wont sell “that one”. Ya... i inquire monthly. @#$&!? |

"Of course they wont sell “that one”. Ya... i inquire monthly. @#$&!?" Maybe they'd be interested in a trade for a different white lightning?? Offer them something to hang up there in it's place! Sbaugz: Sounds like you got a deal! I'm also jealous of the color. Just take your time rebuilding it, I seem to enjoy working on mine just as much as I enjoy riding it. |
