"at this point I think there will be only two bikes to satify me. an s1 or s1w." I had always wanted an S1, but just because of reliability rumors and whatever else, I ended up picking up an XB9 instead, thinking it'd be a more modern substitute. Great bike, but it wasn't an S1, and it just wasn't the same. I eventually sold it, went through a couple other bikes that also weren't the same, and ended up with an S1 anyway, and couldn't be happier(even with all of the preemptive upgrades and worn out parts that need replaced). I know an M2 is 90% the same as an S1, but it's not an S1 so you've definitely gotta pick the bike you know you want from the start, or you're going to spend more money buying one later anyway. |

Buy the right Buell the first time or buy it cheap because they are kind of difficult to resell. It's kind of a niche market and an undervalued brand which is a bit unfair. |

I agree with Hogwash, buy the bike you lust after. Don't compromise. Don't wind up with buyers remorse. |

well im going out east for sure. if i buy that s1, who knows! i feel like s1w would be my favorite. not only for the color combos but for why most people like them, the heads and manta tank. but if i get that s1 cheap enough it would be fine because then i can customize it to my own liking. |

Just so you know you sit ON an S1/S1W, you sit IN an X1/X1W. The stock seats on all of them were designed by a eunuch. |

Oh yes I realized I will be needing some kind of help with the seat. I still like X1 bikes but they look so cluttered. Especially the tank |

The tank and seat could use some help. I went with Corbin, race kit, carbon fiber tank accents. Here's my old girl, I need to get it back on the road again but Triumphs keep sucking up all of my mad money.
I've had both an S1 and S1W but prefer the X1W for the riding position and general ornery feel of the thing. |

I would think the S1/W is more ornery than the X1. At least in my case. The S1 just feels less tame. More like a beast that has been caged and is finally set free. S1-I'm a lone wolf, a complete bad ass. If you want to ride along, I cant guarantee your well being. You might even make some enemies along the way. Think I'm jokin'? Me- You're an a$$%@#e. S1- Stop bein a b*#$h... You comin or not???? X1- We'll be bad ass together. Let's see how much mayhem you and I can dish out. We're a team and I love you. Me- AWWWW... I love you too |

hahaha. i only rode an m2 once. it was fun. i know it had stock cams so more torque. im still on the fence about the EFI on X1. s1 just looks so much cleaner. i know there are better upgrades. i think a 98 s1w w/ a late swing arm would be near perfection |

aren't the X1 cams the same as the M2's? for some reason, I thought they were. I really don't have an issue with the EFI as long as I keep it above 2k rpms. anything below that and it sputters a bit. but ya... the S1W is day-um sexy. |

im 99% sure the x1/s3 engines had different cams than a m2. my buddy really liked the m2 because of the stock cams and carb. flat torque curve. |

M2, S2, (and XL of the same era) shared the same cam lobe profiles. S1, S3 and X1 shared a common lobe profile (more lift and duration than the M2/S2), although later DDFI model engines had cam lobes with slightly different ramps (but the same lift). |

X1 has a lighter flywheel, too, if I'm not mistaken. They certainly seem to rev faster than my old S1W which went to Norway many years ago. The S1W went like hell, it just seems like the X1W does a bit quicker. Lighter throttle pull might have something to do with it, too. Either model will certainly keep you entertained and they're really becoming a rare sight on the road these days. |

The X1 has the advantage of the removable frame panel that allows for easy belt replacement. Also, you won't have to rejet anything when going from ethanol5% to real gas or going into the mountains. |

Ha Nate that removable panel is not an advantage in my eyes it takes me longer to take it off and get it back on then it takes me to pull and change the isos on an older tuber!!!! |

There were two different weights of flywheel assemblies used in the X1 (and others) production run. Early 1999 X1 had the same weight flywheel assemblies as the S1. From approximately May of 1999 to late October of 2000, lighter assemblies were used in production. In late October (2000) they returned to the previous S1 weight. |

I tend to avoid others "go fast" mods, unless I am familiar with the actual bike and it's owner/builder. Best place to start (IMHO) is stock. |
