Hey there. im wondering if anyone has a solution to this issue. Im running the Race Only ECM. Oem race exhaust and forcewinder intake. On starting the bike cold it will not idle. I have to hold the throttle open a bit until it warms up befor it will maintain an idle of about 600-800. Once its warm its idles and runs perfect! Does anyone know how to adjust it where it has a high speed idle then drops down?? Please let me know! Thanx |

There's a manual adjuster cable that's zip tied to a bracket under neath the tank on the left hand side. Cut that loose and pull it out so it's by the air filter. |

Stevefold is that the idle screw? |

I guess you could call that the idle screw. Pull the tank off and find the cable with the knurled knob on the end which they buried in a spot where it's totally useless.

If you adjust the idle speed so that it starts without touching the throttle, it will idle too fast when warm and will probably overheat in heavy traffic. The book says to adjust the idle to 1100 I think. Mine seems most happy set to just under 1000 when fully warmed up. I have always had to hold the gas a tiny bit to warm it up. Remember not to beat on it or blip the throttle until it's warmed up. |

Oh and on mine, the idle adjust knob was behind the left side scoop. |

Sweet! Thanks for the help. I think my idle is a bit low anyways. I havnt riden this year yet. I havnt even started it lol! Im going to try the tps rest , log some data and try what you all reccomended. I think my idle was set to around 6-800. Im going to bump it up to 900-1000 and see if it helps. Im just currently doing the chain conversion and i have to make a chain idler so the chain doesnt hit the swing arm.. Damn.. Thanks again Ill update this thread when im done adjusting everything. |

>If you adjust the idle speed so that it starts without touching the throttle, it will idle too fast when warm... This. Mine is the same. I need to hold it open on start and that is fine by me. You run the risk of it walking off the side stand - so you don't want to leave it unattended anyway. FWIW, I keep my idle speed set just a hair over 1000 rpm so it does not lope. Loping sounds cool but is harder on the internals. |

The knob on mine is exposed (that doesn't sound quite right) so I screw it in a bit when the bike starts and then back it off once it warms up. Now that I think of it, I shall enlist my wife in the knob twiddling next time I go to ride that bike. 1000-1100 RPM is a good idle for the bike. (Message edited by SteveFord on June 01, 2018) |

So, my ECM wont connect to the comupter. I have downloaded ecmspy did the activation and registerd my ECM and i keep get a "timed out" error. -I am runnin a race only ecm on the 00' x1 -I ran my meter on the ecm connector port on the bike and im getting a volt reading on all prongs in the connector. -Ive charged the battery , and even tried to connect to ecm spy while the bikes running. Has anyone else had this problem? Or know why this is happening? Also i have tried multiple usb cords and have upgraded all my computer drivers... |

I'm using an older version but it's Options, Communications, auto detect button to get started initially. Then I have to click the KEYS button to get the closed loop window to open up. Newer versions may be different. |

You could ask buellfighter what he did for the swingarm with the chain conversion! http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/827750.html?1527037004 |

Also i have tried multiple usb cords and have upgraded all my computer drivers... If I recall correctly a specific usb cable with embedded circuitry is required ( try mouser electronics ) search bad web, this cable end and cable whip comes in several flavors I can't remember which version is used. to this you add the mating connector A time out on serial data line is an indicator that the data is not passing, or the system receiving is not receiving valid data. I also seem to remember that there was a time limit from key on kilsw on to connect to the ecm after that time out the port shut down. I recommend that you have the computer connected and the port and speed set as needed, then power on the bike, then the kill switch. click the key button IIRC to go on line, I like to check comms by watching the throttle position as live data.. BTW I have an ancient version of spy ( that runs on an equally ancient laptop >> XP << ) so newer is not always better. one other thought, the very first thing that you do when you establish reliable comms to the ecm is to save a copy of the whole thing to your computer, and then IIRC you can compare them, then proceed with adjusting it. I have recovered a failing ecm simply by rewriting its code for another badweber. spy is a wonderful tool if used correctly.. } |

SOLVED!!!! Thanks @steveford for all your help. After installing the previous version (v1) of ECMspy my buell connected without issues. I have a feeling older buells will not connect to the latest version of ecmspy. If anyone has success with 99-02 tubers connecting to V2 of ecmspy please update this thread. Also, regarding the chain conversion @brother_in_buells it seems that in the pic the guy grinded down his swing arm or frame peice. You can see under the top part of the chain some metal rollover. Ill post some pics of my conversion when im done. But wat i did was make a hubcentric sprocket spacer, added a chain tensioner and took the swing arm down slightly. I havnt put it all back together yet but ill post some pics soon! Thanks again everyone! Does anyone know where to find the oem maps and specs chart for the race only ecm?? Thanks |

I reprogrammed my 01 S3 with ecmspy on my laptop with windows 7 no problem. I’ll have to see what version it is. I have the X1/S3 stock maps and race maps. |

Oh really?? Hmm i had that same setup and mine would "timeout" and the ecm would not connect. I will download your maps and check them out. Whats your opinion on the race map over the stock map?? |

Race map gets rid of the lean stumble with aftermarket intake or exhaust. No other noticeable differenc IMO |
