I picked up one of the newer pulley braces, the style that came on the X1 that just looked nicer than what was on my S1. My brace is all one piece but the newer brace is flat and has a big spacer behind it. I figured I could run to Lowes and pick up an aluminum rod to cut down and drill, but they didn't have anything nearly thick enough. I'm going to have to order an aluminum spacer online, but just to make sure I get it right on the first try, does anyone have one of these laying around they could measure for me? My best estimate is that it should be 1.3" long, 1/2" ID and about 13/16" OD., based on my current brace, if anyone can confirm. The length is the part I'm really curious about, since both braces have a little step on the back and aren't entirely flat. If anyone else has one laying around they'd let go for a couple dollars I'd also be interested. | ||

I can get you measurements in the morning. My brace is off currently and the spacer is sitting on my bench. Fyi the 96 S1 used the 2 piece spacer also. | ||

That'd be awesome. I wonder why they switched for 97, then went back shortly after. I would think, in my unprofessional opinion, that the version on my 97 with the built in spacer would be the better/stiffer version, despite not looking as good. While you're in there measuring stuff anyway.... any chance you'd want to take some quick/simple measurements of that hose clamp tool you posted pictures of the other day? I googled them, I see most of them are listed at 4-3/4" long, is that from end to end, including the threaded portion and wingnut, or just from the tip to the end of the gold tube? I have a 1/2" aluminum tube and some 3/8" threaded rod. The more I looked at them, the more I figured it'd be something pretty simple to put together if I had a little time. Best as I can guess is the aluminum tube is about 3" long, the steel tip is about 1" long, and the slots cut into the aluminum are roughly 2.5" long? I'm sure I could wing it and it would come out perfectly fine, but if you've already got one laying there... | ||

Length 1 7/16” or 36.5 mm. Diameter 1 1/8” or 28.25 mm To double check install the brace and measure the distance left between the brace and the casing. I will get you some detailed measurements of the tool later when I get back out there. Not easy getting around with a broken foot. | ||

I forgot about the foot! Take your time on the other measurements. Thats how I got my previous measurement of 1.3". Yours measures closer to 1.44, so maybe mine wasn't sitting completely flat when I measured it. That's a lot wider than I had expected too. I measured the aluminum stud on the engine the pacer presses against, and had ordered a 3/4 aluminum rod this morning to make a spacer out of. 3/8" skinnier but I'll see how it works. | ||

I also believe there was two versions of the brace that did not have that used a seperate spacer. One was completely flat on the back that was my 96 S1, the other actually was a little wider at the spacer side making the spacer smaller this was on later bikes I had one of those in a parts pile I purchased. In any case go with the wider measurement see how it fits you can always make it smaller! | ||
