Hello

I have issues on my Buell since the big oem air cleaner box is back on (current set up : oem carb with a dynojet kit, Supertrapp and big oem aircleaner box)

Bike is dribbling from 3500rpm and won’t go past that, on the freeway it doesn’t go more than 65mph...

I have been told from my local shop that I need to replace the carburetor by a new one !?

I’m thinking to put a Mikuni HSR42 (42-11) instead of getting a new stock one, what do you guys think ?

I’d also like to know if it possible to put on a Mikuni HSR42 (42-11) carburetor while keeping the big oem aircleaner box on my S1 WL ?
I have seen a Buell S1 by the past with that set up so I do think it’s possible !?
If it is can you please tell me what other possible parts I might need and what to do ?

Thank you for your help and replies

What year?

Shop you are dealing with is looking to make money not fix your bike you dont need a new carb. Cv carbs are super simple. Try this pull the box off and cleaner does it run correct then? If so it is restricting to much air flow for the tune. If not it has nothing to do with the air cleaner set up. Carb might just need cleaned and rebuilt especially if you have ran any gas with ethanol in it

S1 White Lightning

Has the palm hit the face yet?

If not, the S1W was only made for the 1998 Model Year...

I ran into this on a friends sportster. He had a clogged main jet. In 40 years of playing with carbs I've never seen a clogged main! Slow speeds all the time but never a main.
You can also take it out and get it to 3500 for a little while and then kill the engine, coast to the side and check a plug. If black you have too big of a main jet for the air cleaner or your float level is too high. If white then a clogged main or too small of one and then too low of a float level.

Frs1,
They are really easy. I was scared of mine and a badweb friend tried to tell me ho easy it was but I ended up at his house and I ended up laughing at how simple this carb is. You can do it. But thee is a strong Buell following in France possibly some facebook buell groups that can hook you up with others.
Also fyi photobook pics no longer work.

Another option is semi-do-it-yourself.

Take it off the bike.

Take photos of every step as you take it apart.

Get it completely apart.

Put it in a bag and take it to a jeweler.

Have them put it through their ultrasonic cleaner for you.

Go through your photos, last to first, and reassemble it.

It really is easy to take apart and reassemble, and if you have a good eye you can see scratches/gouges/etc as you take it apart that will identify problem areas.

Thank you all for your replies, I picked up my Buell from the shop today unfixed, sure glad that it’s now back home !
Another question, if I was to put on a Mikuni Hsr 42, is it possible to keep the oem big box air cleaner on it ? (In that case by using the Mikuni Airbox adaptator ?)
What other parts would I need ? Would I need to replace the throttle cables ?
Thanks

sounds like the slide diaphraghm is torn in the top of your carb. The proper part to for fix it costs $42. Contact me at sales@nrhsperformance.com if you need one.

Do you use your throttle like a light switch, either on or off? Or do you realize there are part-throttle positions needed in the real world?

The CV40, when properly tuned and jetted, is a wonderful unit. The mikuni is ok for the track - pin it open, slap it shut, pin it open...

Take the time, save your money, and set up the cv the right way.

I've had a few Buell with the CV carb and they all ran just fine.
If the diaphragm on top isn't seated properly the bike won't get out of it's own way, you have to wiggle the cap around to get it to seat right sometimes.
