I have 2 on my 96 S1; first one is on the cases right behind the oil filter, I'm thinking it is the oil pressure sending unit but it could be from where the cases join together, is that even possible ? and what is the fix for that ? i'd hate to have to split the cases. second one is oil pooling on the top of the transmission under the starter. it's definitely not coming from the cylinder, head, or rocker boxes and it looks too "clean" to be engine oil anyway, thinks it's coming from the trans but where ? anybody ever deal with any leaks like this before ? |

Kenb: The oil on top of the transmission could be coming from a leaky gasket between the starter and the inner primary (assuming it's not just pukage from an over-filled transmission). The fix is to pull the primary cover to get at the two bolts that hold the starter on, then replace the gasket. The oil on the front of the motor could be from the pressure sending unit or from a leaky gasket on the filter itself. Seems like there's another bolt in that area that can loosen up and weep oil, but I can't remember what it fastens to. Try this: clean the area really well, then as soon as it's dry, spray it with some of that dry under-arm deodorant that leaves a powdery residue. Then run the motor until the oil appears again. The powder will show you where the leak is. rt |

Check where the fastener for the front tie-bar screws into the case. It needs thread sealer to keep it oil tight. |

dude- both of those could very easily be from rockerbox or pushrod cover gaskets. we hear exactly those symptoms around here from guys with such leaks. clean your topend as well, even if you don't see the oil there. |
