I loosened the nut even to point of flats not engaging on latching bolt so that not issue |

How long since there was gas in the tank? Sometimes I find I need to soak the gasket in gas to soften it up if it’s been dry for a few months. I do it in a zip lock bad with about a 1/4 cup of gas. |

Yeah it sounds like your gasket is just too tight against the new aluminum piece. You could try soaking it in gas like KM said, or maybe if that doesn't help you could just try trimming the bottom of the gasket with an xacto knife(Is it supposed to somewhat seal up against the bottom of the gas cap? I don't know if that would cause you any problems with gas leaking, I know the actual cap still has the o-ring on it). If nothing else you might just need to replace that rubber gasket. I saw someone on facebook this morning asking about replacement gaskets, was that you? You might already be a step ahead of me here if it was. If it wasn't you, someone posted a link to st. paul HD, they sell the gaskets, I think it was around $14. |

I used a new O-ring then fined the right spot on the nut and threaded post that doesn't bine.Or maybe you got a bad-one? |

No wasnt me but I ordered mine from St. Paul HD Got my new rubber gasket and just installed it and works fine now thanks everyone for the help (Message edited by fabfun on May 19, 2018) |
