Anyone in the DFW (I'm in Denton) area have time or desire to help a brother out when it comes to removing and replacing pistons, rings, lifters and anything else in the top end?

Man It's always nice to see that s1 It was good to see you got it back after a lot of time. Hope you get things sorted and working like new! Pulling such a engine apart isn't really that hard ,the detail is in putting it back together in the correct way. Im working on a x1 engine myself at the moment. Cam bushings need to be replaced after the previous owner removed the cam cover and forced it back on and without removing the rockers and sold it as a running engine. |

Thank! Good to have her back riding. Have a ticking noise I believe to be lifters and want to remove the heads and cylinders and replace rings and pistons if needed. Hoping for a fellow Bueller in the area with knowledge and insight on what to look for. No prob if not! |

1. read your spark plugs. Oily, rings. Black, fuel. Gray, no issue. 2. do a compression check, see shop manual for specs. 3. do a leakdown check to see how valve guides and seals are doing. If those check out, all you have to do is pull rockerboxes, pull rockers, pull pushrods and tubes and replace lifters. I recommend cutting the tubes with bolt cutters and putting collapsible tubes in for reassembly, keeps you from having to pull the heads to do the job. |

For the ticking lifters You could ad some atf oil into the engine oil and take a short ride for cleaning them. But don't put in to much atf and refresh engine oil and filter afterwarts |

Ratbuell, On 2002 and older Buells you DO NOT need to pull the heads off to remove the pushrods, bases or lifters. You only have to remove the rocker boxes.} |

Try a bit of Seafoam in the oil. If it's a clogged lifter, it will probably free it up. Then change the oil. I've had Seafoam do some amazing thing.. |

before you run the bike again take the anti-rotation pin covers off and make sure none of them are broken |

All great info! Along with the noisy lifters I also have a slight knock equivalent to the sound a loose nut on the front primary sprocket but the nut is tight. I don't mind removing heads and cylinders to check pistons and rings and replace. Just thought if there was bueller in the area I would take a advantage of his expertise and compensate of course |

Front pulley nut is a left hand thread, but you may already know this |

Just do it. I did mine by myself with a manual and didn’t put the motor back in for a few years. It’s pretty simple. I would much rather replace pistons on a tuber than valves on a 1125 (Message edited by Skntpig on April 16, 2018) |

It is not hard. I had Blumz go through mine with me an because I was nervous but once we did it It was surprisingly simpler then I thought |

Okay Turns out a 2 dollar circlip on the rear cylinder fell down in the bottom end. The wrist pin proceeded to gouge the cylinder wall. Long story short. I need: A crank Cylinders Pistons/rings Any ideas on who may have or where I can find parts for ol Black Lassie would be greatly appreciated!! |

And use Teflon buttons instead of circlips. You can get them from Axtell. |

There was a 97 S1 engine on Facebook the other day for $500, for the life of me I can’t find it. But it may be time to wake it up with a blacked out thunderstorm engine, do a carb conversion and S1W ignition box. I’ve been toying with doing that to my S2. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2 F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F222895640760 |

just wondering why you need a crank? I've seen alot of dropped circlips and we just fished the the clip out and then rebuilt.Just a question |

Odd, with the circlip gone the wrist pin worked its way to the cylinder wall and caused damage. the particles ruined the crank bearings and some damage to front cylinder. No damage to heads. Needs crank, cylinders, pistons. |

if it were me, id keep it,put a few hundred into the motor build and learn a few things along the way. then ride it such a bad ass bike. funny thing....days before you posted this, I posted a thread about where to find a front pulley brace just like the one you have. then you post this with the front pulley brace I was lookin for. coincidence? I think not.

You mean 2006 XB motor? The parts you need will not cross over. |

Ah. As long as it is an X1 motor it will fit. You will have to use your carb, manifold, and timing cup to convert it to carb use. |

sweet! sometimes we just do all we can to one bike and the flame gets a little low. onto bigger and better things! (not saying tube frame buells are inferior) |
